To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

If Partner Platinum could have been gifted to anyone 6 months ago I may well have gone for P1. Seems like QF would like more P1s now. The higher number of DSC promos this year suggests they’re struggling to get the level of bookings they’re after.

That is a good change - I know everyone has different circumstances, but my wife very rarely travels without me, so her platinum membership was wasted.
She doesn't travel long haul segments where the status bonus increases the points earned?

I do not agree that QF wants more P1's. The new DSC promo is hardly aimed at the ultra high value pax imho.

It is puzzling to have another so soon after August, but I can guarantee it's not about P1. :D

Some reciprocal recognition, similar to this AA and BA GGL tie up, would be a valuable enhancement especially for AA connections in theirs hubs plus Concierge Key checkin and boarding. Additionally, mirroring the GGL, a hotel status opt in would add significant value to this 'status' level of which stock standard VA SG and WP offer.

BA offers a couple of benefits that I value above anything else - The Joker (Gold Redemption or Space release) forcing open award seat space, and the upgrade vouchers (GUF's) which cover an entire PNR. I pick up 3 jokers,1 GUF2 and 8 GUF1's in my membership year - 9000TP's. The GUF1 is the greatest value for me because I can book an ex EU J return to SYD and instantly upgrade to F, providing there is A class availability, for about AUS$4.5k. (I know this is off topic but it highlights what I see P1 should be rather than just barely a shade above platinum.)

Lifting the restriction on Platinum gifting is great. Here’s hoping more of our suggestions.

But Sadly I reckon that’s it for program improvements for a while. Then again, hopefully the often ad hoc approach to the P1 level might carry in our favour and they change something else for the better next quarter.

Apart from the fluff in the briefings, these small changes to P1 seem good - ie IMHO the trend is slow but sure improvements, not "enhancements".

Agree and am not complaining.

Given they got a lot of feedback a few months back, and stated they were going to review things though makes me think this is it. Because If they do make further improvements —great — but it will just continue the feeling that this program is still an experiment / work in progress. In my opinion anyway.

We're sick of hearing all this guff about BA ……. :p

I am Black with Latam, but slowly letting that go - I have actually flown more LAN/LATAM than Qantas in my life, and they are actually more consistently inconsistent than Qantas, especially when things go wrong :/

wow.. that is quite a feat to be more consistently inconsistent(tm) than QF

Anyone kn ow how you actually go about booking the one-off flight with the P1 discount?

Just click on the link in the newsletter.....if req fill in your QF log in details and off you go.

Not sure how that works - are you suggesting that if I log into my QFF account, and do a search for a ticket, that the discount will be shown automatically?

Edit: BTW I have attempted to click on the link in the newsletter, have then input my login details, but it then just sits in a perpetual "in progress" type screen loop.....

Ha! Good old Qantas tradition - it eventually worked after about half an hour - am used to QF sensitivities so soldiered on and eventually the booking system worked :)
