To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Boomy, Has this on boarding at door upgrade by CSM happened to you on domestic flights?
My one and only onboard upgrade by CSM was on a Trans-Tasman flight. CSM had received word from F lounge that I was happy to move from Row 4 on the 737 if there was an empty row somewhere as I was keen to rest (had a long day of travels and delays, splitting headache -- F desk didn't want to move me as they couldn't block the other seats so I could be worse off).

I boarded towards the end (maybe in the last 10 pax). When CSM saw me she recognized me - and before I could finish saying "if there's an empty row could I move there after take-off, no dramas if not possible" she pointed me to 1C and said that's where I belong. She then did a quick check with the J attendant but I'd already sat down!

Being a 737 it wasn't that discrete but if the pax in 1A was annoyed she certainly didn't show it. J attendant insisted on taking my meal order first even though I offered to wait until the end.

Kindness of F lounge staff, and CSM-recognition. Being P1 helped too I'm sure.

So who does have the power to block seats?

Hi all. I'm 790 status credits short of renewing my P1 status with 2 months to go. I have a return F trip to LHR coming up in a fortnight. Will that do it? Does it help that I booked and paid for two more F tickets on the same flights?

Also, I usually ring the main phone number with any issues rather than a premium flyer number. I'm not being egalitarian - I just can't remember the right number. I get good service and they know I'm P1 but am I short changing myself on the level of service or do all the calls go to the same call centre?

Return F Trip to LHR Ex AU would give you 840 SC so shouldnt be a problem.

The number of the premium line is on the back of your card and yes it is much much quicker and can often get you in touch with more experienced operators.

If you cant remember the number why not put it into your phone :)

Yes. The Earning Points & Status Credits Calculator shows that it earns 420SC each way = 840 SC for the return flight. You would need to leave LHR I think before your 2 months is up.

Only if those are comfort seats (i.e. extra seats for putting your stuff with no passenger), but I think comfort seats are just for economy?

There should be a number on the back of your frequent flyer card.

When you enter your frequent flyer number and PIN when prompted they would prioritise your call accordingly, I think. If you have low status you could be waiting a long time, maybe an hour or two if it's really busy.

The P1 contact number is also displayed when you log in to your account on the website.

Thanks folks. I’ve now found the phone number which is hidden on the back of the card. And I’ve put it in my phone.

I’m back from London before my renewal date so all good.

Re Res it doesn't really matter IMHO. I mean if you call the reg number, put the FF# in, you get redirected to the next operator anyway.. probably on the premium desk if it's staffed.

The SST number won't help much with regular reservations stuff.. they usually pass people through (un;ess a special requrest is needed)

IMHO

Fancy buying a comfort suite in QF F !!

I don't know but I'm guessing you could purchase a comfort seat in PE or J on aircraft where you can have a seat very close to you? Anyway, OT.

Actually, flying F on EK out of or into Adelaide as I sometimes do, you usually get an F comfort seat or three for free as the cabin is usually lightly loaded. I sometimes ask the attendant to make up the bed opposite if it is free.

Any QF lounge angel can soft block seats.

This was a few years ago but from memory it was a bit of a combination of factors. It wasn't at the desk -- the F host came to talk to me, in part to let me know boarding would be a few minutes late and it was only Gate 25 so I didn't need to rush. When I asked about empty rows he said he could check but couldn't rule out others making requests and being agreed at the gate or onboard so would be best made to the CSM. He then went to the gate himself and spoke to Alison. Which is how she knew I was coming.

I probably posted this story in the FA Bouquet thread or maybe the Trans Tasman one many moons ago.

I note you said for free, but I guess if you did buy a whole cabin of F for return flights to LHR you'd have every right to expect instant P1 status!

If buying a whole F cabin was on the radar, you'd probably be flying private and not commercial.
One return flight would only get you two squiggles too, halfway to qualifying!

The only time I purchase 2 extra seats in F is if MrsM and MissM are travelling with me and there were no redemption seats available.

I am confused, did you purchase 2 extra F seats just to keep them empty?

Get it now. All makes sense. I too have used spare F seats as stowage or to sleep in, I had misread your earlier post and thought you were taking comfort seats to a whole new level well beyond my means.
