To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Don't tell me SST were able to somehow arrange it to fly over to MEL :)

SST had nothing to do with the short notice flight. I pulled my QF flight forward and was moved to J, also pulled RTN flight with VA forward and was also moved to J. Both done at the lounge, just dam good luck and would not expect it would happen any time soon again.

In "Juddles for cuddles" mode - head off soon on a simple one-way to Colombia workplace from Brisbane home - BNE-MEL-DXB-CDG-ZUR-BCN-MUN-ATH-PAS-JTR-ATH-IST-JFK-BOG-MDE-COG.

My P1 umbrella will only cover me the first two sectors...... have not even travelled but I feel already pangs of guilt as to why the cheery hostesses between BNE and DXB will not get much enthusiasm from me.

Simple indeed!

That sounds like a run only the hardiest of us would want to do...hopefully in premium cabins

Presume you meant to type MEL and DXB...

It is a run that may be the end of me :) And at the end of the run is jungle, no hot water, and living on fried plaintains for a couple of weeks. But yes, in some decent cabins along the way....

P.S. I meant BNE and DXB as the only flights on QF are BNE-MEL, and MEL-DXB :)

Also figure you meant MUC not MUN as that would be an interesting way to get from BCN to ATH! :)

MUN

Was booked on flight CNS - BNE this Friday on a business sale fare ($449) - which actually isn't an officially eligible fly forward "Flexi" class. Had to travel to Brisbane at short notice today, couldn't change fares online to today - midday flight availability showing remaining business fares at $1181, Flexi fares at $495. Passed cutoff time to rebook a new midday flight online, so called up P1 team who forwarded me through to premium reservations and subsequently moved me forward without charging fare difference. Hard to know if I was Platinum only if they would have done this. Thanks P1!

Got a P1 upgrade from Y to J on a CBR-MEL flight. Not a huge benefit but to be fair I have generally been booking highest class of travel on QF this year so limited scope to upgrade. Grateful for the upgrade to 1A as it was accompanied with an empty 1C.

Food was rubbish (a 13:15 departure gave a ridiculously small salad as the only option) but the service was fine. Jessica our CSM was great - managed to top up my wine a couple of times despite the short flight - also seemed young enough to be my granddaughter* - and I’m only just biologically old enough to be a grandfather...

* obviously a slight exaggeration.

Anyone see this piece from AusBT's David Flynn on executivestyle.com.au?

And what's beyond Platinum One? Right now, that's as high as you go. But don't rule out another stratospheric loyalty tier.

At the launch of the Qantas Premier credit card earlier this year, Qantas Loyalty CEO Lesley Grant remarked to High Flyer that when considering branding for the airline's own credit card, 'Diamond' was ruled out in case it was needed for a new Qantas Frequent Flyer tier.

If that's the case, diamonds may one day become a frequent flyer's best friend.

Sounds intriguing! Anyone from here heard anything about a new super status?

If they do a higher tier again one would want it to have some pretty serious benefits e.g. some/all of:

Chairman's lounge access
Upgrade certificates
International upgrades confirmed up to 14 days out (or some other figure that's longer than for P1).
Fly ahead as a defined benefit even on Red E-Deal flights
Two guests for QF operated First Class Lounge
Arrivals access to QF operated First Class Lounge
Access to QF lounges anytime regardless of which airline flown (if any in the case of Domestic lounges).
Able to gift Platinum to a family member/friend in addition to Partner Platinum for spouse from P1
Lifetime Platinum (one can dream, right?)

And then undefined things e.g.
Free upgrade if spare seat in higher cabin more regularly than the ~10 flights that P1 seems to get it. Obviously lower priority than points upgrades etc. still.

However having to fly e.g. say double what's needed for P1 would put it out of reach for almost everyone. They could keep it very exclusive by not counting DSCs towards obtaining/retaining it unlike lower levels such as P1.

I don't think QF would announce long in advance introducing such a tier if they decide to do so, and would keep plans for it close to their chest.

Or it will just be a new name for P1s. Can’t see them retaining P1 and a new tier and CLs.

P1 suggests Platinum + a few benefits. Diamond would seem to suggest a bigger difference, so if they did rebrand P1 as Diamond one would expect them to establish greater points of difference.

That's what I thought. P1 was never meant to be a distinct tier, more so to keep high SC earning Platinums in the fold by offering a few extra trinkets. Unfortunately P1 has taken on a life of its own in the AFF world at least; most people in the country probably wouldn't know it exists or just disregard it because it needs so much flying.

Maybe rebrand the 2400 status credits Platinum bonus as Platinum 1 (so maybe 4 days upgrade, just a few small extra benefits) and then Diamond is the new P1 (with even better benefits)

Hope so and agree. reckon they should ditch the P1 experiment if so. I suspect a diamond tier would be a very high earn, probably real SCs and only QF metal too.

Half QF staff don’t even know what P1 is.

I just received an invite to the Bledisloe Cup game 3 21/10/17 in Brisbane as P1. Many others receive this invite? ( New P1 for one month approximately)

Says the invite is not transferrable - would they check ID at the door?

I can only speak for an AFL invite I had this year that I went to and took some friends. QF wanted the names but were fine with that... at one point close in I was not too well and I let them know that I may not make it but could my friends (whoose names I'd already given) go still and they were fine with that.. as it happened I improved enough to go so we went.. there was no specific ID checks at the MCG apart from the emailed tickets and barcodes to gain entry to the ground and entry to the corporate suite area (but again, that was checking the ticket was valid, not the names). At the actual corporate box the QF people were fine.. had an idea of who we were (ie they knew I'd not been well) but there was no formal ID checking per se.

I found the SST person handling this stuff was really pretty good about it and seemed quite happy to be flexible, specially when it came to me potentially not being well enough to make it(as in I think they would have been OK if I'd said look can I give the paper ticket to another friend their name is X)... they seemed more keen to have specific names as much as anything, but again there was no formal ID reequirements

but this was for a regular AFL game at the MCG not a final or anything.. could be quite different at something like the BC.

Nope. About three and a half years as a P1, not a single invitation for me.

But good for you. Hope you can attend and enjoy. Though you’d probably have to be an All Black supporter to enjoy it.

Clearly you are a higher tier P1.
