So is the upgrade now only for a sector or still for a complete booking like before?

It could be seen as an unintended consequence of awarding points/SCs per segment rather than per trip. Sometimes you do need to be careful of what you want, for you might just get it.

Simple solution. VA could just erase the figure 4 and type in a 6 or an 8!

Alternatively, plats could be grateful they get freebie upgrades at all, but yes, I do agree there should be incentives for plats and the 4 comp upgrades are a valuable incentive which has now diminshed for some plats, whilst others are now benefiting from the additional SC accrual.

I think markis10 was the one who pointed out "swings and roundabouts"!

After thinking about this statement I made, I'd like to change my mind!

Forgetting about the short term (until June) where reward seats are on a promo SC accrual, leaves just award seats and paid connections as the "win" for some flyers. Is that win actually a win?

I'd argue not unless VA revise their fares and fees for both the ridiculously priced award seats and the currently ridiculously priced paid connection flights. At the moment the only good value 2 sector SC bonuses are the short term reward seats.

That is pathetic... another 'enhancement' to Platinum which is already more like Gold+ anyway...

Given you have PAID more the the connecting Flexi fare which is required so you can use the upgrade - its ridiculous to make the Plat upgrades per sector... and a cheap-shot at saving some cash.

Time to fire off another complaint email to HQ.

Do let us know how that email goes..... :p

Not going to achieve anything

I think it is great, I can now book flights from Rockhampton to Sydney (etc) via Brisbane and get upgrades for the 2nd sector. Before as it was all one sector I could not use my free upgrades. One mans trash is one mans treasure :)

That's true. How have you found the prices ROK-SYDx BNE now, compared with pre-Sabre transition?

The latest flights were not cheap (approx $300 each way) but they were flexi and only a week or so from the travel date. if I try a random date in May I can get there and back for 300 in saver lite. If I waited for deals I could get them cheaper.

On a potentially related note, would you think this change also affects the "Bonus Confirmed Complimentary Upgrade" that I got back in August? Still haven't used it yet owing to half price point upgrades up until December last year and then they announced the SC for rewards thing. Intended on using it before it expires none the less, but if it halved in value that'd be unfortunate!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

one of the upgrades I used was my Bonus one. as far as I can see they relate to sectors now and not the whole flight same as the 4 free upgrades.

Well, balls. Hopefully I can use it on the longer of the 2 legs, save some points at least, hmmf.

TSV-SYD or TSV-BNE are pretty good single sector J redemptions. Where were you considering?

strange I've used my comp gold one post sabre to get from Townsville to Adelaide via Sydney.....must have been lucky

Yeah just doing it on TSV-SYD now. I am about to book a three leg TSV-SYD-MEL-TSV(xBNE), I was going to use it on the MEL-TSV one but if I do that pretty much only save aboot 2k points (at best) and spend a fair bit more cash, so I'll up the first leg, better than a kick in the pants!

Ah, the increasingly infamous call center(s) and their consistency, or lack thereof. Practically like the lottery...

would be interesting to see if you can get the whole journey upgraded without mentioning which leg you would like....

I booked rocky to sydney via brisbane but only upgraded the brissy to sydney leg as the planes the fly between rocky and brisbane don't have premium or business seats anyway. so maybe my case is a bit different. it would be nice to hear how you get on booking yours carpenteria.
