Hi all

I'm just in the process of booking accommodation in Italy for August / September 2014 and need some help.

Has any one stayed in the Cinque Terra? and if so where did you stay and was it good, it would be nice to have a view.

Also I need a recommendation for Venice, again I'm looking for something special with a view of the Grand Canal would be nice.

Thanks for your help with this.

I stayed in Monterosso, and it is a great base to explore the Cinque Terra. I prefer accommdation where I can walk to cafes, restaurants etc.
Monterosso effectively has a northern and southern part. We stayed in the southern part. It is an easy and short walk through a tunnel from north to south.

While a view is nice...I was out and about each day, and out to dinner every night...and so not having a view was not an issue for me.

I stayed at the Hotel Marina www.hotelmarinacinqueterre.it

and found it to be excellent.

Hi there, I have a wonderful place to stay in Venice just behind Marco Square. I am on the road so will post details tonight. Room is beautiful and looks over the Gondela taxi rank behind Marco Sq. So you get singing gondellas going past your balcony all day and night. Even when you sit on the loo they pass below you. Hahahah . Back later with details. Price wise it is $380 euro per night, does this fit your budget??

In 2006 we stayed at Riomaggiore & had a great time. The place we stayed was only suitable for a couple but I see it still gets good reviews
Riomaggiore Via Signorini 322 (up from the rail station). The 2 level terrace really suited us

We stayed at Monterosso, the largest of the five. More accommodation and restaurants. As Lovestravellingoz says, the town is divided by a headland with a short tunnel between the old and newer, railway end.. A car is a definite impediment to visiting these villages. There's a train that serves four of them, but the best views are from the ferry that runs between them. If you are doing the walk, the first section heading south between Monterosso and Vernazza is the hardest, so good to get that out of the way in the cooler morning. The last section between Manarola and Riomaggiore is a paved stroll you could do pushing a pram.

Now we have been to Cinque Terre twice...The first time Monterosso in a B & B in the old town was nice but no sea views and cant remember the name other than it was up a steep hill !!!... but the 2nd time we stayed in Bonassola which is I think one train stop north of Monterosso in a great hotel called delle Rose.. .Bonassola is not touristy and is small with not many tourists and its easy with the train to walk the 5 villages...Take the train to Riggamore and then walk to Monterosso, have a drink and gelato and then 5 mins or less on the train and you are back in Bonassola in time for another gelato !!!....Its just fabulous

Our family of four stayed in Levanto last July as we were driving. First village to the north of the five villages and used a combination of ferry and rail to visit each of the villages during our three night stay. Hotel Oasi was pleasant enough with a lift over the three levels, nice breakfasts and included a basement carpark. Levanto is a nice town with plenty of good local style restaurants (nice feeling being amongst many more locals than tourists) and also able to take in Portofino though if driving, make sure you do it early as we were lucky to score one of the last spots in the towns only small public carpark before they closed the road in.

I stayed in Manarola in 2012, its a great spot like all of the 5 towns but it didn't seem to have the same amount of tourists which was goo, also has an amazing restaurant there overlooking the water.

Was there December/Jan 13 (recently) ... we stayed in La Spezia at [h=2]Hotel Firenze & Continentale La Spezia[/h]which was decent. You can catch the train into the 5 points easily.

We also went to a restaurant which was fantastic! Osteria Della Corte ... so good in fact, we went back twice.
