Hi all
tried selecting a better seat through the website on QF 11 the other day at T80, no good seat were available,
At T24 , no change, couple hours later I found an acceptable seat and bingo, kept checking until first flight but nothing better came up, 32J
Rest of 32all blocked, spoke to Qantas on phone and at QP, as was keen for 80A/K, no blocked also.
once I got to my seat , only 2others in 32row, 1 lady next to me , no status, and 1xPS status in the aisle adj, rest of row empty
i am SG , these seats never became available , yet others below in status got access, and shadows filled the rests
not coughing just confused
regards

Higher status pax may have been upgraded very late, and until they were moved to a higher cabin, they were occupying those seats, complete with shadows.

The no (or low) status pax probably got them at the counter, perhaps last to be served.

Were you checking the seat map on Expert Flyer?

I've noticed on A380 it seems only Row 34 opens up for SG. It is possible that they've tightened this up as I had no trouble getting Row 33 as a PS in March.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thx for the advice everyone , it sounds like upgrades might have been the situation

32J is one of the best Y seats on the A380... are you saying that 32 AB DEF were empty? Did the lady next to you (32K) or you end up moving to 32 AB?

Yes those seats were empty, however a pax from rear came forward to those seats

That does not sound good. How full was the rest of the economy cabin?

Didnt go downstairs, but I'm guessing 60% full upper economy several able to lay across 4 seats , I'm think PE was full

Still doesn't explain it. With vacant seats in economy there could not have been many op-ups, if any, so there must have been a lot of people using points upgrades!
