coughet - Is it Bogan for Bogan?

coughet in my opinion is a sh!th0le but it is a good gateway to many other nice spots. Koh Phi Phi, Railay Beach and many others. Karon Beach is less bogan than Patong Beach. HKT Hilton seem to treat their Diamonds well. I have always been accomodated in the wing with the lounge. I always get welcome home flowers on the room door. I have on several occassions hired a car from HKT and headed down Krabi way to enjoy some of the nicer parts of Thailand.

coughet & surrounding region was a beautiful place up until about 20 years ago, before the advent of mass tourism & commercialism - 'progress" moved in..

To get to the topic.. Also haven't experienced the Hilton. Would be nice to get any reviews on this property of late..

I'm heading back in August to let me inner bogan out :)

There are lots of places to stay outside of Patong. Last time I stayed at La Flora in Patong. Pool villa, nice breakfasts, right on the beach and I don't think I saw another Aussie the entire time.

Also headed north slightly and stayed at the coughet Pavillions. Pool villa on the top of a hill and great food. 1 word - awesome.

We stayed for a week at Kata Beach resort, about 8 months after the Tsunami had hit them, Patong beach is full of bogans, but Kata was delightful. AS others have mentioned, you'll find bogans anywhere if you look for them. As an aside, what is it with backpackers who travel around the world , just to hang out with people from their own neck of the woods?

Heres some photos I took from the resort:

Thanks for the replies, I decided against coughet for the bogan reason. A hotel outside of the bogan-zone still does not alter the fact that the bogans are not restricted to cages and it will be me and mrs me having to play dodgeball to have a drunken lout bogan free quick break, so we are still on the way to Thailand week after next but staying in Bangkok and Hau Hin.

coughet is good to get checked off but the bogan level is quite high. You ought to enjoy Hua Hin with the +1 more, attracts more of the slightly older German and Scandinavian couples. Nearby Cha Am is also very pleasant, quieter and worth stopping by.

I think you'll enjoy Hua Hin far more.

I've been to coughet a couple of times now. The last time probably convinced me that I'm in no hurry to go back. I enjoy Thailand, but coughet (Patong mainly) as a whole is too far gone for me. When I travel I really want to get involved with the local culture and interact with locals in their settings, and whilst coughet isn't Patong all over it's just easier to visit other parts of Thailand.

Another thumbs up for Hua Hin - we usually head there as a family every year. We stay at the Hyatt in Hua Hin and my wife loves the attached Barai Spa. We usually stay in the regency club rooms (this has been renovated recently), the breakfast, evening canapes, drinks etc are fabulous.

My daughter loves the selection of pools (one with a giant water slide) and the numerous kids activities available on site. The hotel gets busy on the weekend with many people heading down from BKK. But the class of the people at the resort is fab and no BOGANs.

The resort doesn't have night club (which is excellent), McFarland House makes excellent coughtails and has a fabulous view of the beach and sea.
