Phoenix Accommodation

Scottsdale is an outer suburb of Phoenix.

I've stayed in both places and suggest stay where ever it's easiest for the purpose you're there.

What's the purpose of your visit? Phoenix is one of those typical spread out US cities. Forget about public transport there. I believe they have some great resorts though.

I've stay at the Hyatt Place in Gilbert as it was close to where I had a meeting. It was adequate and actually quite good for the price paid. Not close to much though.

If you're there in the winter, a hike up Camel back or Squaw Peak is worthwhile.

We are there for a short break, between San Diego and Florida. Have booked a car for the 3 days after we fly in, and Scottsdale seems a nice spot. I noticed the resorts so wondered if anyone has a recommendation. Two adults, have spent a couple of years in USA, but haven’t been to Phoenix since 1980..... thanks for the tip about the hikes, Daver6.

What time of year are you there?

I had family you lived there for many years, so always stayed with them around the Scottsdale area. I can ask for resort recommendations if you like? There was also a small town they took me too just for a day trip. The name escapes me, but was quaint and a nice lunch spot. Could find that out too if you're looking for things to do while there?

Sedona is really beautiful too. Could be worth spending a night there too.

That’s exactly the sort of advice we were hoping for thanks. We are on a cruise from LA to Mexico from 20 Jan, a few nights next in San Diego and we fly to Phoenix on 31 Jan for 3 nights. We love small town America, very happy to hear the name, could miss staying in Phoenix altogether and just move around for the 3 nights. Any info your family provides would be much appreciated, thanks. Will see if Sedona can be fitted in.

I've shot off an email to my aunt for information and I'll report back. Weather in Phoenix will be ideal that time of year. Blue skies and low 20s during the day.

Thanks a lot. Yes, quite like Central Aus in winter where we live .... Sedona might be too cold, as we are not planning to take winter gear.

Ok, so the little town I couldn't recall the name of is Cave Creek and we had lunch at a Mexican place called El Encanto.

From my aunt...

Yes I would say Scottsdale. Although there are two near my old house that I like as well (Paradise Valley). Montelucia and the Camelback Inn. Nice views

There is also a kind of luxury rustic one north of Scottsdale in Carefree called the boulders. It is a bit far but great little casitas with fireplaces set amongst huge boulders.

Most have golf courses. I think all have spas. Some are close to shopping.

If you have narrowed it down or have specific questions, she's happy to answer.

That’s brilliant. Can’t beat local knowledge! Please thank your aunt very much. Cave Creek sounds just our kind of place..... and we will decide on accomm now too, using her info. We aren’t golfers but love a nice atmosphere wherever we stay.... looking forward to getting away from 40+ degrees for awhile. Cheers and thanks very much. Karen

Thanks to your info, we have booked 3 nights at Full Circle Ranch at Cave Creek. It’s a BnB and gets fantastic write ups. Looking forward to it! Will let you know afterwards if it lives up to its brilliant reviews .... small and run by a couple. Cheers and thanks, Karen

We were impressed with the Biltmore and less so with the Hyatt opposite the conference center in town. I think the Biltmore was designed by a world famous architect. We actually used some of his design ideas when we rebuilt an apartment.
