Hi All

I pay my rent to my realesate agent and their payment details are via DEFT. In the past I had tried to pay this by points credit card by logging into my internet banking, but it was never allowed to be done via that method. I recently realised that I can pay direct to DEFT, where it will not be treated as a cash transaction and I can earn points from ANZ, however it comes with a processing fee.

So I'm wondering in terms of value of points per $ spent if it is worth it. Figures as follows:

Fee for paying weekly rent direct to DEFT: $11.77
Qantas Points earned Visa Card: 981
Each point is costing: $0.01

What does everyone think? Is this good value? I'm using ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, but cannot see if there is a cap to points each year. If not this would net me an extra 52,000 points per year.

It will depend on how YOU are going to use the points. If you can extract more than one cent of value per QFF point then you are in front. If not then you are losing.

ie

Redeem for a RTW Oneworld redemption in business class and you are on a winner.

Redeem for domestic economy then probably not given the cheap flights that you can buy. Even long haul economy may be a loser.

1.2c per point is ok value imo. I won't pay a CC surcharge if it costs more than 1.5c / pt.

All all depends on what price you put on points and how desperately you may need a few 1000 points to finalise an award booking.

Normal value of points is around 1 to 2 cents per point.

Yes, I plan to use most of mine for RTW in Business or Business upgrades. I do know though that people here have given average values of a QFF point which is why I asked. Couldn't remember what they were. Thanks :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm not desperate but I wouldn't consider 1,000 per week to be just a few thousand. Thats an extra 52,000 per year! Currently sitting on 460,000 QFF points accumulated in just 2-3 years and looking to up it for 2 x Oneworld Explorer fares in business.

ive done this on and off for a few years and found it worthwhile until the Visa/MC earn rates were slashed, not so happy to do it now as the margins are a bit thin - DEFT AE surcharge is way too high otherwise I'd be on that.
