Paying AA Domestic Award Taxes From Australia

I recently purchased 40k plus bonus AA miles with the idea of using them to book two trans continental flights in Business (3 class) or First (2 class). It seemed a much cheaper way of doing it particlarly SFO-JFK. I plan to book the first leg now and the second leg (MCO-LAS) once the bonus points arrive.

I have to pay the princely sum of $2.50 in taxes but it doesn't seem to be possible outside the US to pay online. Does this mean I have to pay phone booking fees etc. I'd be grateful for any advice.

Have you tried the "El Segundo" method?

(I have not done this for awards, but it may work ...)

Hi Serfty. I know what you're referring to but I can't get that far. I basically get a message saying to phone up an AA office to make the payment. One option may be to use a US based proxy service and then try what you're suggesting.

It turns out this was a non-issue. I called AA in Brisbane (Fiji) and they accepted credit card payment with no additional fees. The cost was $2.41 AUD so hopefully no currency conversion fees!
