Property: HOTP
Date: 2-4 Sept
Booked: Hilton Guest Room $205 AAA rate
Received: King Executive room 17[SUP]th[/SUP] Floor facing the MCG
My third stay at HOTP and whilst the rooms are a bit old the service sure makes up for it.
Check-in was a breeze, upgrade and breakfast downstairs offered without asking.
Lounge food was good, Salt and pepper Calamari and a beef curry on Monday and Chicken Satay and some Brioche on Tuesday. Greeted by name on Tuesday night, shown to a table and the gentleman in charge remembered my drink preference from the previous night.

First time visit with a car, and $28 a night for parking, when your only there for 12 hours I think is a lot. Does anyone know of cheaper parking around HOTP?

Did you use valet parking? The price sounds ok compared to other Hiltons.
In Sydney & Brisbane it's $55 and Perth $50.

Only used self park, and it may well be similar to other Hiltons, but I would like to try and find somewhere close that's cheaper.

On weekdays it can be very hard unless you use early bird parking.
Parking in Melbourne is terrible and very expensive. In the city it can go up to $88 per day!

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Thanks Boomy
I noticed some metered parking in the streets around the Hotel, which given the operating times may work, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable leaving the rental car in the street.

Stacks of car parks do in after four out by 6AM for $7 or so, the only other real option I am aware and use when at the IC is Crowns Multi story for $15, obviously hardly close.

I would not be worried about leaving the car in the street, unless Collingwood are playing that day :)

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Might try the street next visit.

I'll make sure its not a time when Collingwood are playing.

the one next to HSW does this...very useful, but you have to be able to struggle out of bed in time :)

There are some spots nearby that have 2 hour parking unmetered from 7.30am, so parking until 9.30am is possible.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I probably won't arrive until after 6.00 PM and leave around 7.30 AM so it may work out OK.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Parking is indeed a PITA in the area - at least charging it to the room give a few more HHonors points.:p

Note that when you do so, you get given a multi access parking ticket valid generally until 6pm the next day.

Won't be a problem to find parking on the street. You may need to pay the meter until 7.30pm but after that it will be free until the morning.

Be very careful parking in the nearby streets. I had a friend visit me at HOTP last year and he parked in the street. The metered zones turn into resident permit parking at a certain hour and the parking inspectors are there to book lots of cars.

Good point. It's important to read the signs carefully. Permit parking usually applies in residential streets. Some of the streets near the park should be ok.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Also, be careful when parking on Clarendon St (next to Fitzroy Gardens) when there is going to be a footy game at the MCG in the morning - the area changes from 2P to no parking at all. We nearly got caught out a few months back - luckily we noticed the parking inspector inspecting our car whilst we were at breakfast.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

If the metered parking in Clarendon St, opposite the Hotel, is 2 hours or more would be the obvious place.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Just to finalise this thread I had another good stay at HOTP this week
Left the car in the 2 hour parking in Clarendon St, on the side of the Hotel.
The metred hours here are 7.30AM to 6.30 PM.
Arrived each night about 6.00PM and put $2 to cover the last half an hour.
Found out in the morning that if you put your money in the meter before 7.30AM it allows you to prepay the time from 7.30AM.
Both mornings went out to the car before 7.00AM and put in another couple of dollars.
Problem solved
