Pacific Blue new J seats? Are they installed or used yet?

HI everyone,
seriously considering a flight with effectively Pacific Blue.. (early jan 2012) for 2 weeks.
Does anyone know if they've been fitted with the new layout? I believe they haven't, however i do know that VA is moving planes around, and some of the domestic plans do the short haul international?
I don't believe you can do the seat allocation trick to find the aircraft layout on international flights?

Thoughts?
 
The shorthaul inernational destitnations with the new J seats are HKT, HIR and DPS. These destinations are operated by Australian registered aircraft. The NZ registered fleet has not been retrofitted at this stage.
 
You do need to be a little careful when planning this at the moment. For example our Pacific Blue flight MEL-AKL-MEL in early Dec was operated by an Air NZ all economy A320.
 
My understanding is that the Virgin Australia (NZ) fleet (ZK-PB*) will not be getting Business Class. The the market ex-NZ to Aussie/Pacific islands will be still targeted at the holiday makers market.

NZ found that Business Class on the Tasman wasn't worth the space it took up. On the A320s they had an average load factor of 1 business passenger.

Odd, that J class doesnt sell trans tasman. The flight is a few hours long. I would have thought it would sell better than J syd-mel, given the traffic between the two countries.

I'm pretty sure the NZ A320 J Class was alot better than the product that DJ is installing. It did have a 42" Pitch / In Seat AVOD / Foot Rest.

^ That looks a lot better than the "business class" Qantas offers on its narrow body tran-tasman service. However, that is only from a hard product prospective.

I know allot of NZ based companies have a 5hour plus rule for Business Class travel. Also allot of government travel is done in Economy, domestically there is no choice since NZ dropped J in 2002.
 
Flew the new VA in J between DPS-SYD the other day... first time in those new J seats on "international short haul". Quite horrible. I was hoping that the experience would be similar to the old NZ J on the A320, which I absolutely loved and really miss. Unfortunately the recline lacks massively, and the lack of a leg rest is annoying. It really just felt like a wider Y seat, with similar recline.
 
The issue was that average was one Paid J on the craft (out of eight seats).

As a *E I could book a flight with R class availability and upgrade into those seats with

from the cheapest fares.

Still can on the 767/744/772/773 they fly TT, but the timings for those flights generally don't suit me.
