Friday March 7, 10:01 AM Ozjet selling trans-Tasman

Ozjet has begun selling seats for its trans-Tasman service, which is to commence operation later this month.

The airline will fly between Palmerston North in New Zealand and Brisbane and Sydney in Australia from March 30.

The airline plans to operate a 737-300 series aircraft with seating configuration of 112 economy and 12 business class seats on the route, according to AviationRecord.com.

More than one million people live within a 200km radius of Palmerston North.

The airline hopes to entice them with a one-way economy lead-in fare of A$199 that includes a full meal service and international departure taxes, the website reported. - Travelpress travel news

I would like to be one of the first to wish them luck with this new venture.

Do Ozjet have new a/c as previously they have operated only 737-200 a/c only :?:

Indeed, they only have 4 732s. But their schedule shows the trans tasman to be operated by a 733.

I wish them all the luck in the world. They will need it. Ancient planes on a patchy schedule with sky high fuel prices will be an interesting start. Hopefully it won't end like the SYD-MEL adventure or worse.

SYD-MEL on Norfolk Air is still available and bookable (at $1 if you book far enough ahead). Just don't count on there being a flight every week, especially if there is bad weather...

I wish them all the luck and hope this new venture is a success.

Not sure how popular these routes would be considering Palmerston North has an actual population of ~80,000 and the majority of the 1,000,000 million people live in Wellington which is 140kms away.

Almost like trying to market flights out of NTL to a Sydneysider....

I didn't know there are that many people still living in NZ. I thought they were all in Oz :!:

The $199 fare should attract the leisure market.

I hope Good Friday's flight is OK. First-time, for a last-minute MEL getaway :)

Will be trying the MEL Hilton on our way back, so thumbs up for the HPC $99 STAY CARD. :)

They still have the $1 specials?

I was refering to when OZ Jet was doing a scheduled return service a couple of times a day which lasted for a few days or so.

Freedom Air fly that route now, don't they?

Well, at least until they close their operation, in the next wee while, and didn't they cite low load from PMR as one of their reasons for pulling out?
(if we overlook their primary role of "eliminating Kiwi" Air was successful , and there's little or no difference between them and NZ anymore)

Makes me wonder what Ace Oz Jet have up their sleeve

I wish them all the luck though, as we need to keep NZ and QF honest

Oh, and I travel to Wanganui a bit, so PMR is an easier drive than from WLG:D

And the wheel turns again:

Friday March 28, 01:01 PM Ozjet drops trans-Tasman plan

OzJet has scrapped plans to operate a trans-Tasman service from Palmerston North.

The airline announced its decision yesterday, just four days before the service was to begin.

A statement issued by the airline said the decision was due to recent merger talks that were nearing completion.

The potential for trans-Tasman services and the opportunities that the Manawatu connection presented was first class and it regrettable that we can not move forward at this time, OzJet CEO Willie O'Neill said.

Planning for the new services was well advanced and there will be disappointment with this sudden change of plan which has been driven by events beyond the control of any one party, he said.

All passengers booked on OzJet services to and from Palmerston North will receive a full refund. - Travelpress travel news

Not the most reliable airline are they!

I wonder what would have happened if they decided not to refund the money?

Is Ozjet serious? Does anyone take them seriously? Don't see them having too many supporters now.
