Overview of Best Qantas Status Run Options [not the discussion thread]

Just booked some trips:

DFW-MCO-MIA-ORD-BOS 300SCs for US$614 US$2.05 per SC.

ORD-DFW-PHX-GEG 270SCs for US$488 US$1.81 per SC.

GEG-PHX-SFO 130SCs for US$277 US$2.13 per SC.

GEG-PHX (90SCS) is a happy hunting ground and can get quite cheap when continuing to/from other destinations, especially ORD for some reason.

Sadly the US AA site doesn't seem to want to accept Australian credit card addresses so I had to temporarily relocate to the Californian suburb of El Segundo Zip code 90245 with my Australian street address in the other fields.

So far the above have been ticketed with no problems.

All you have to do is select Australia as the billing country and enter all your details EXCEPT the postcode. It will go through just fine. I don't get why despite the numerous posts here and words to the same effect on AA's payment page... everyone continues to attempt to put their postcode in.

You could've saved about $200 if not more if you had a non-US agent issue those SC run tickets for you. Non-US agents can exempt the US/ZP taxes as long as there's international carriage (on any carrier).

As soon as I selected Australia as the billing country, prior to entering the postcode, I was diverted to the Australian site and the fares were no longer available.

My trips to and from the US are point redemptions, AA points on QF to the US (MEL-SYD-DFW); and QF points on QF coming home (SFO-SYD-MEL) not sure it they would be eligible to remove the taxes but it's done now.

Although the majority of JL Domestic good value SC earning has been killed off by Simpler & Fairer...

I noticed it is still possible to use the Oneworld Yokoso 10k JPY fares to earn at Flexible Economy rates: HND or ITM - OKA is the best value at 30SC per leg or roughly $4.73/sc at present exchange rates

(These fares book into Y fare code and can be standby upgraded to Class J for an additional 1k)

Looking to do my first status run... Currently have nothing with QFF!

MH have some good fares ex-HKT and ex-BKK

BKK-KUL-CMB return is AU$650 for 280 status credits... $2.32/SC. This seems like pretty good value?

With QF back to SFO and good award seat availability, I've been pondering AA YUPPs out/in SFO. Lucked a reasonable fare a few months back - SFO-DFW-PVR (ret) for US$600 F/J (300 SCs) for travel last month. I'd looked at PTY at $580 ret but we ended up spending a few days at beach in PVR.

Nothing quite like those now, but $1060 for SFO-DFW-MIA-PTY // PTY-MIA-SFO (450 SCs) available.

Perhaps availability is getting thin on the dates you're searching? The Business Promo fare is only showing for certain days on the MH website now but found some in late April first try :)
