Overview of Best Qantas Status Run Options [not the discussion thread]

Any table etc would quickly go out of date as the routing rules can be changed overnight (as in the case of the NAN run) or fares change, was OT long ago TSV DRW was 30k.

Yes, this is just a snap shot. Some of the points required are already changing because of the fuel levies.

I've updated the table to note those flights where a return can be
1) made in a day or
2) an overnight stop is required or
3) a red-eye back landing the following day so sleep on the plane instead of at the destination.
 
I've heard that mentioned a few times but haven't found much from searching. Why is it so easy in the US?

Just working on some options for a AA status run. I can't do too much as I have the family with me. Looking MCO-ORD-LAS as a not too hard route.
But I've noticed united flights being offered on one leg. Are there status credits available for these legs?

When flying on eligible American Airlines® fares and flights with an AA flight number, you can:
- earn points,
- earn Status credits on eligible booking classes,
- earn a Status bonus,
- earn a Cabin bonus, and
- earn a minimum of 500 points with the Minimum Points Guarantee.

an eligible flight is defined as
"the flight number of any
oneworld Alliance Airline or Airline Partner"

Must be ticketed in one of the following fare classes
First - A,F,P
Business - D,I,J
Economy - B,H,K,Y
Disc Economy - G,L,M,N,S,V

but as far as I can tell, as long as the flight has an AA flight number and is in one of the fare classes above you would earn SCs

Bugger. Prefer an Airbus than a 757 across a US.

We need to develop or find a "status run" travel search engine where we can set these options!

A big thanks to Mark and all contributors to this thread. I've massaged flights in the past to maximise points earn, but this is the first time that I've ever had to book a full on status run. I quit my job a month ago, which means no more paid J international travel. With 5 months left in my QFF year, I am sitting on 3180 SCs, 3160 of those on QF metal! With no hope of ever likely being able to retain Platinum again, but looking at my large points balance and wanting to give my family a good travel experience when I travel to HKG on xASAs with them late next year, I figured I'd look and see if there was some way that I could hit P1 and get myself 3.5 years of lounge access (1.5 years of P1, 1 year of WP and 1 year of SG thanks to soft landings).

Thanks to the guidance and suggestions in this thread, I have now booked the following JASAs:

Day 1: BNE-CBR-MEL-AKL
Day 2: AKL-MEL-BNE-TSV, TSV-BNE

Nett Cost (after points earned on JASAs): 103K points and $590 for 420 SCs which puts me dead on the qualification level for P1 :)
 
Not all routes offer the same value, depends on where you are based, ex BNE the run to KTA is not bad.
 
The earn does not change just because you actually want to enjoy a stay mid trip, with the exception of a flight on the same number where you stopover mid trip. However keep in mind stopovers may not be permitted, it will depend on what fare etc.
What's that you say? A status run where you actually leave the airport? Visit the city you are in? What a strange concept.;)
 
Yes I know! I do do things a little differently... but then my (yes - full time) job gives me 4 days off one week and 5 off the next on a 2 week cycle - so I have a little more time than most... and I only have leisure travel... if only my work thought I was important enough to fly around :S

It's OK. I too am a SFSC (Self Funded Status Chaser) :)
