Overview of Best Qantas Status Run Options [not the discussion thread]

These two have been posted on FlyerTalk and maybe of interest. Prices are in USD.

AUS-DFW-SJU-CLT-PHX-ANC-PHX-JFK-SJU-DFW-AUS
Overnights required in SJU; fast turn in ANC; $2154; in J to and from SJU and F elsewhere.

SJU-JFK-LAX-JFK-SJU-JFK-LAX-JFK-SJU
This one seems to be three separate tickets; $1316.60; J and F again.

More PTY goodness:

LAX-LAS-ORD-MIA-PTY-MIA-DCA-CLT-LAX

(ORD-MIA-PTY-MIA in J)

620SC

$995 early 2016

$1.60USD/sc

I was able to build on yohy's work and optimise it a little to reap 660 SCs for USD821 (USD1.24/SC):

LAX-LAS-ORD-TPA-MIA-PTY/PTY-MIA-DCA-CLT-LAX

Depart LAX at 9.01pm and arrive into PTY at 8.53pm the next day. Depart PTY at 7.25am and arrive LAX at 9.52pm the same day. Importantly, no overnighting en-route although I suspect the 3.5 hours LAS-ORD at midnight would be a little brutal. For an extra USD15 and 40 SCs you can add TPA in on the return but this then requires overnighting in DCA.

Ex-AUS I don't recall but it wasn't particularly attractive by our measure.

SFU-JFK-LAX is 160 so it looks to be 640 (maths is not my strong point so it would pay to check). The upside of this run, however, is not so much the $/SC (although that is still pretty good) but the fact the transcons are on AA's new A321s with flatbeds in J. On top of that there is decent availability (at least when I looked) to upgrade to F.

Isn't DFW-SJU booking in "I" so 80 SC instead of 120?

I will be over in the US over the new year and want to look at a SC run, how are you booking these flights now? I've booked them in the past but the booking engine has "simplified" and now i can't force it to do things.

I haven't gone through to the booking stage; I've only priced them up on the ITA Matrix.

From my perspective there are two options. The first is to price the itinerary on the Matrix. That produces an itinerary that you can take to a travel agent to book for you. The other option is to use Google Flights. I'm not as familiar with this as I am the Matrix but when it prices it provides links direct to booking channels where your itinerary is pre-populated.

CX Ex-TPE Intra-Asia J Updates:

TPE-HKG-SIN (Rtn) 240SC $858AUD $3.58/SC
TPE-HKG-PVG (Rtn) 200SC $761AUD $3.83/SC
TPE-HKG-CGK (Rtn) 240SC $961AUD $4.00/SC

I've booked a status run that is more expensive and less status credits (bear with me): ARN-xLHR-xDFW-GRU-xDFW-xMIA-MXP with AA in J. The four long hauls are on flatbeds (although LHR-DFW is angled flat but I can confirm an upgrade to F). The four long hauls are, well, long which should mean more time to rest. From my calculations it will earn 600 status credits and about 49k QFF points. The total cost was a little under AUD2800 for mid-next year.

Not the usual up, down, up, down, up, down of a status run but I'll be in ARN and I haven't been to MXP or South America. I'm now keeping an eye out for a GRU/GIG-LAX/JFK to book one of the SJU or PTY runs (posts 241 and 243).

Intra USA flights shorter than 400 miles will only earn 30SC in F after 1st December 2015. Something to bear in mind for those planning LOTFAP Status Runs.

I missed this - unannounced enhancement?

Whilst that might be a slight loss, there is a gain for those including DFW-EWR/LGA/JFK in their runs. These routes normally would only earn 90 SC's as per the 'all other flights' distance table whereas they will actually increase to 120 SC's, as per the 1501-2500 miles earn despite being in the 13xx mile range.

Re: Best QF Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Best I've found is:

DEN-LAX-DFW-ORD in First Class nets 270SC. If you can get DFW-ORD ticketed as a QF no it'll net you 30SC more which will be 300SC. Return can be had for AUD$1059 which is just under AUD$2 p/SC.

I'm going to be in Denver in January with a spare 36 hours. Might give this route a go. thanks for posting.

Re: Best QF Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I just completed a few intra-asia MH flights which were fortuitously bought during a business sale promo. DPS-KUL-PEK return in J for approximately $830 (given FX movements) netting 320SCs.
