Out of Date Sandwiches

Hey All,

I have send feedback through to VA about this, but just wanted to let others know to check the use by dates on the food Virgin offer on board.

My flight from DRW-SYD on Saturday had the "Egg, Rocket & Mayo Sandwich" as part of the food offering.

The use by date on this was 9/04/16, which is nearly 2 months out of date.

As you can guess, I declined eating the sandwich and let the FA know.

Cer-rikey - I'd be emailin' that to ACA / T/T or whatever Ch7's equivalent is - they will lap it up - mind you I'd be lookin' for a tidy little earn in doing so!

2 months out of date EGG and MAYO !!! I hope they gave you a vomit bag with that ! You are SO lucky you checked the use by date :shock:

Yes. The appropriate thing to do would have been to check all food served to passengers, not to wait until after...

I can only hope that it had been frozen (although unlikely due to the rocket).

Otherwise this is absolutely inexcusable - I'd be writing to JB directly about it.

No they continued to hand them out to everyone, when I went for a walk later on, I looked in a couple of the rows and saw the same date on them.

The FA thought it might just be the wrong date and let the cabin manager know and then didn't hear anything else from them on the flight.

If bet they were supposed to be printed 9/06 not 9/04. Unless frozen for months, you'd expect a reasonable degree of visual deterioration after 2 months ...

Same thing happened to me a year or so ago. Nothing done on board, not offered any replacement, and an email to let VA know got some waffle about keeping track of food and a few points. Wasn't too impressed.

Agree, did you have a look at the product and see if it looked rather bad?

Even if it were frozen well before the due date then defrosted, it might be OK for consumption, but there is both a risk and a bad perception in there anyway.

On another note, they have egg & mayo sandwiches now? A bit of a change from the ol' limp tomato and plastic cheese ones...

I just put a complaint into Virgin as well, I had the egg sandwich on the ADL-PERTH on Saturday and the sandwich was rock frozen. The egg mixture was frozen in the middle and the bread was icy and covered in bit of ice . I actually spat the mouthful out into the napkin . My seat mate had the same issue so I pressed the buzzer and I just politely said the sandwiches are still frozen and she just said sorry we can't help that .

I flew back from LA a few weeks ago and grabbed a bag of chips from the premium bar setup. They tasted generally bland and lacking in crunch. I initially blamed the great USA and their general lack of food quality, until I saw the best before date - June 2014. It was May so I guess they technically kept it less than 2 years since the expiry...
