Does the Qantas Online Checkin, including Domestic seat selection work on iPhones?

How about Nokia N Series browsers?

I'm pondering traveling without a laptop, and i'll already be away when checkin time hits.

Thanks. :)

iPhones, yes. Other phones, no idea.

Was annoyed I missed out on a seat on a recent flight as my phone battery died mid-transaction. Went from front row of Y to 10 back, in 10 minutes.

So yes, OLCI and seat selection for DOM works a treat from iPhones :)

Here's a related question though - can you use your iPod Touch / iPhone as a boarding pass?

Using OLCI online, you can't 'print' the boarding passes as PDFs onto your iPhone, and there's no functionality on the QF site that allows it to be emailed to you, unlike CX I believe.

On the other hand, if you do OLCI on a computer and email yourself a copy of the boarding passes, in theory there shouldn't be an issue scanning the barcode off the phone instead of a printed copy - has anyone tried this?

Yes and no. I thought I'd give this a go a few weeks ago; the BP scanner does eventually read the iPhone screen however when I made it on board, the CSD wasn't prepared to accept that that's what I'd used to scan in (was in fact quite rude about it). Glad I'd had the foresight to print a copy of the PDF! :)

I'll be continuing to have Qantas cut down trees and print me a boarding pass at the QP.

Funny - I'd have thought it would be easier to forge a printed BP than a PDF on a mobile device, with the same ultimate result in that you'd eventually be kicked out of your fake allocated seat once they checked the passenger list (or the actual seat holder appeared).

Not that it's a huge deal, but being able to do the whole process on a mobile device without the need for a printer would be incredibly handy.

Not sure about this concept of "printing" a BP onto iphone. Wouldn't it be easier to just save the PDF to iPhone. Of course, I say this in theory as the once time I tried to open my BP I was confronted with a "no pdf reader" error. But as others have open pdfs on iphone I presume there must be a Acrobat app out there somewhere. As a separate app it should then be a simple matter to open the BP in said app and just keep it open in the app until boarding. Umm I really should try doing this, to see if my theory works.

This implies that the CSD has experienced situations where the check in staff just let people wander down to the aircraft without having a proper BP.

Personally, I like to try for a better seat using the kiosk check in, so no need to bother with printing BPs from iphone check in.

What I did was e-mail the pdf to myself - the iPhone will happily open a PDF attached to a mail message. Frankly it was all a bit inconvenient, I just wanted to see if it would technically work.

What I'd love to see QF do (or any other airline for that matter) is implement a proper iPhone and Blackberry app that allows for booking management, check in and boarding.

Exactly! Can't be that hard. The qantas app does now have manage my booking, but it seems to only be a web based front end.

Recently when I was at the airport waiting in a queue and wanted to check which flights were still available. Accessing qantas website on the iphone does not allow you to search flights and make bookings. However I was able to do so on the iphone by using logmein app. This app allows you to connect to your desktop computer (home or office etc.) and use it remotely.

So you could also do this to online check in from your iphone. It is a pity that you can't use your phone as a boarding pass though.

You can access the full QF site. When the iPhone site has loaded, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see something like "Main qantas.com site" click that and you get the full site. Voila. Problem solced:)

I've used Qantas OLCI on my Nokia N95 8GB many, many times without any problems. I then print the boarding pass when convenient.
