Hi Folks
Since the older thread that I posted in last week about access issues, I am still have enough issues that I just can’t post much at the moment - maybe some think that’s a good thing!

I often can’t get the forum to load; if I see I have notifications I either can’t click to see what they are or they take a really long time to load. Pictures are taking forever to load so I give up; if I can access then making a reply just sees it sitting there so often I close down and come back later and it may or may not post. Even editing takes ages.
I’ve tried clearing cookies, using two different browsers which are both up to date (chrome and safari) and on the iPhone and the iPad. Makes no difference.
And it’s the only website and forum I’m having issues with so it really ain’t me!

When you switch between your iPhone or iPad I presume you’re using the same wireless network? On your iPhone, if you disable wifi, does performance improve? You could do the same on your iPad if it has cellular.

On the iPhone I’ve tried both - WiFi and 4g. On the iPad it’s WiFi.
For instance a few minutes ago I tried to get in after I’d posted this thread and didn’t get past this (assuming it will load) But it’s also random. I got in quickly now on 4g whereas 10 minutes ago - nada. Picture taking a long time to load though.

I see that about the only difference to your account is that you are using the AFF Classic Style. I have just changed you back to the default style to see if that changes anything on your end.

Do you use a VPN app on either device that could be interfering?

The only other thing I can think is that something is being retained on your device that a restart may fix. Often with phones we just plug them in at the end of the night but don't restart.

Pushka just so you don’t feel alone I’m experiencing the exact same problem. Also on Optus. iPhone running 13.1. AFF seems to be the only site I’m having a problem with slow loading. Wifi seems ok. Both 3G and 4G can stall loading for an extended period. It does seem a bit intermittent. I’ve changed to the default style and it seems ok at the moment.

I can see a notification but after over a minute as per screenshots I still can’t access it.

Optus and AFF aren’t working together. Our WiFi is Optus as well.

No VPN. I’ve already done a hard reboot the other day and feel I’ve exhausted everything I can do. Changing the version from Classic hasn’t made a difference.

Currently waiting for images to load up. Ok. Over a minute and still only 71% so giving up.

Whatever was done to AFF a week ago is the time when this all started. It was super fast before and is normal with all other websites now.

I’m on free WiFi not Optus. There is an incompatibility with AFF and Optus.
I would get in contact with Optus in that case, we will do the same. It appears they’ve previously had issues with BigFooty, another Xenforo board.

I think it probably is the provider. On my trips at some hotels or lounges this happens to me.Change hotels and the problem is gone.

I cannot change providers as Optus provides all our business needs perfectly. It’s just AFF that’s the problem and it happened last week when AFF made their upgrades. And I don’t think Optus will give a flap if I call them tbh.

Glad I found this thread. I thought it was just me and was going crazy (took me three tries to login to post this).
In my case I'm on PC and started noticing performance issues since Monday. Pages are either very slow to load, doesn't load fully so have weird formatting or times out completely. Just pinging the site results in constant 50% of packages timing out. Based on this thread, seems like Optus is the common denominator as we're also on Optus. This is the only site that I have issue with while every thing else works fine. As mentioned, this only started happening this week.

Apologies for the problem some of you are experiencing. support and I are investigating and will be contacting some of the posters on this thread to help us in trouble-shooting. Stay tuned...

The upgrades that were made will just be a coincidence rather than the cause. No changes were made to the structure of the site or in any way that would cause these issues. As mentioned above, the common denominator is Optus, so it is likely something Optus changed.

I will get back to you individually soon with some instructions on how to proceed to work out where the issue is, and you may need to download an app to do so. I am looking at free apps now to facilitate this.

To add an anecdotal reference point.

I'm on Aldi Mobile (Telstra 3G/4G) using iPhone 6S on iOS13.1

Home Laptop & internet - TPG Internet (ADSL2) and Windows 10Pro

I'm not using any Optus products.

AFF is as fast as any other mainstream site I access and no change from last week.

Yes, it’s established it’s an Optus issue so you won’t be affected.

We are going to do a "traceroute" from your individual devices to see where the issue is. A traceroute displays the route and measures transit delays of packets across an Internet Protocol network. Essentially, we are checking the route the website takes from your device to its physical location. By doing this, we can see if there's a point in the middle where packets are being lost.

For those on iOS I have found a free tool called IP Tools: Network Insights that can be downloaded from the App Store. Once installed, you'll need to navigate to the bottom of the list of Utilities and click on Traceroute. You'll need to enter www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au as the host name and then "start". This will provide a list of "hops" from your starting location to the actual server location, and can even be viewed on a map.

As this will reveal your personal IP address I am not asking any affected members to post the results here, but if you could email me ([email protected]) a screenshot of the result it could help us track down the problem spot. As an example, this is what I see when running the command.
