In the early stages of planning a RTW trip. Two questions.

1. Is the following valid on a *ONEX:

Aus-Asia (no stop) -Europe (stop) -US (stop) -Asia (stop) -Aus?

and

2. Is there a fee for changing flight date once the *ONEX has commenced?

My TA (from FC, usually does simple return fares) says No and Yes.

However, the OW Explorer fare rules (effective 1 May 2010) says:

4. FLIGHT APPLICATION/ROUTINGS
(a) Only one intercontinental departure and one intercontinental arrival permitted in each continent except as follows:
2. Two permitted in Asia when one is a transfer without stopover or on direct single plane service between the Southwest Pacific and Europe.
and

16. VOLUNTARY CHANGES/REROUTING/PENALTIES

(a)
Rebooking/Rerouting

(2) After Departure
(a) Date/time/oneworld carrier/inventory changes are permitted provided ticketed points remain the same.

(b) Changes other than^ to Date/time/oneworld carrier/inventory permitted at a charge of USD125.00 per transaction.

Is it time to get a new/better TA?

It is possible that these are new changes to the fare rules since 1 May 2010. I'm happy to give benefit of the doubt if so.

It certainly may be time to get a new agent.

The correct answers are 1. Yes (valid) and 2. (no $125 fee, although the Agent may charge a "service fee")

Have you:

1) put your routing through "Mileage Monkey"? (MileageMonkey 0.95022)

2) done a dummy booking using the oneworld booking tool? (oneworld planner)

With online advice and the various tools available, I can't see why you would want to use a travel agent when booking a *ONEx . Especially if their advice is suspect to say the least!

Also FC will plate the ticket via QF, whereas finding a way to plate the ticket with AA could save some $$$.

If there is no change to the itinerary other than the date/time/flight number , then there is no change fee. An other changes will incur a USD125 fee

Be aware though that some airlines (QF for example) and travel agents charge "service fees" on top of change fees for making the change, plus of course may also charge a fee for making the booking

Ta for the replies gents.

Very early days in the planning (although departure is mid-August) so routing/dates pretty fluid. Really just tested water with the TA, and based on the replies, probably won't dive into that pond.

Actually don't know if OW product will be the way to go, as definitely want to see Cuba and probably Libya and Egypt. Might have to go with *A or get an add-on fare to Havana.

RTW airfares are like doing sudoku with countries/cities instead of numbers :D

Libya will not be good for an OW ATW ticket due to there being nowhere you can fly to from Libya without it being another continent... London or Amman -Tripoli is a Europe/middle east - Africa sector and you cannot then fly back to Europe/Middle East

Is that correct, or have I misunderstood what you have said here? Both Libya and Egypt are included within Europe/Middle-East per http://www.oneworld.com/content/library/3015v67 oneworld explorer.doc

Oneworld Explorer Rules said:
Continents are defined as:

Europe-Middle East (including Ekaterinburg, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia)
Africa
(which together shall comprise TC2)

Asia
South West Pacific
(which together shall comprise TC3)

North America (including Caribbean, Central America and Panama)
South America
(which together shall comprise TC1)
