Qantas
Gold
Hi All,

I would like to confirm something. I'm currently Qantas Gold and have relocated to London, so it makes more sense I believe to start earning BA Avios and status.

If I do this, and stay in the UK for a few years, I will lose QF Status. If I do return home I would want to build up my QF Gold status again. If I'm back in Australia, and I'm BA Avios Silver (equivalent to QF Gold), will I get Gold benefits if I'm using my QF number on the booking (which will have no status) by showing my BA card?

On my ticket/boarding pass it will show my QF number with no status - is this a potential source of problems with say lounge access?

Yes, you will receive all benefits as Oneworld Sapphire (Note: for seating benefits you may need to swap numbers around to achieve). No problems with lounge access, just show your card that does have the entitlement.

Welcome to London!

I do get the benefits with QF but seating sometimes an issue usually when flying a Dash 8.Can be up the front but occasionally end up down the back.

Really you should associate your BA status with the QF booking to ensure benefits. There was a case some years ago, IIRC it was in CBR, where someone was trying to do something similar and was denied with some notion that the BP for the flight involved must show the status to get the benefits. Some lounge dragons may accept showing the current status card along with QFF Bronze on the BP but they really should match.

The other way to do this is to book with the BA status card (and thus can select seats as OW Sapphire have baggage and priority access etc) then once in the lounge ask the agent to change the FF# in the booking to your QFF account. That is the usual way to do this kind of thing.

I too have no problem at all getting status benefits from QF as a BA Gold (OWE). I can enter QF lounges waving my BA card regardless of which program is getting my mileage credits that day.

Your travel and goals re lifetime status etc will govern whether you choose to stay as QFF or BAEC. Both programs have their sweet spots and benefits. If you are flying a large amount - or in premium cabins- you may want to use BA - if not, QF is generally better for Australian residents.

LT Platinum on QFF is set as a very high bar compared to LT OWE on BAEC. BA has some great perks for very frequent flyers (guaranteed upgrades for card holder and partner on same itin for example).

A word of caution - both programs require some flights on their metal to maintain status until you reach LT status, if you are not going to be able to do that on QF when you move residence, start shifting to BAEC, now.
