"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

So the time has come where I have to call to add a segment (NRT > HNL on JL) to my one world award, which I booked online. Should I expect any difficulty adding the segment? How do I word my request?
Sorry for such a dumb question, my first one world award and want it to go as smooth as possible.

Cheers :)

@Danger I'm not sure where they are on AFF, but they're easy to find in my spreadsheet. Please note this was as of March 2017:
RJ 362
QR 361
AY 361
UL 361
IB 361
CX 360
IB 360
AB 359
BA 354
QF 353
LA 331
AA 330
JA 330
JL 330
MH 330
JJ 329

Super. Great to have. Note IB is listed twice with different days. And what is JA?

In theory you should have no problem, subject to you still being within the rules. If the agent wants to charge you the phone fee ask him or her to step you through the process to do it yourself online (I don't believe it can be done).

Use the list I've posted in the wiki in this thread ... that is the most up to date info.

Having not booked around the world flights using QF points before I have found them (for two0 in J/F for mid 2018 commencing in HKG and unsure if the milage is within the rules.

HKG/BOS cruise YUL/LHR stop LHR/DXB stop DXB/BNE stop BNE/CNS.

26,312 miles. So you have plenty to spare.

Given your stop in DXB, a friendly reminder that EK is not part of OW.

Not sure whether you booked it yet, if not just be prepared the agent might not find the space available if they are looking at the wrong system, so you will either have to call back to find another agent or insist it is available and convince the agent to look around for you.

I had to do it twice for two JL segments and both times it took me a while before I can convince the agent to look for it, but managed to book it both times so it is doable, just be prepared.

May I ask, what is the correct system?

Typed in QFF want to get to international destination, flight takes route via another capital city.

Is it better to use\book rewards points to go from city to city in Australia to get to international destination (as Qantas spits out) or is it better to buy a cheap ticket to the city and then use QFF from that city to international destination?

Will bags get checked all the way through if classic rewards points ticket used from original Australian capital city?

I tried asking the agent but they won't tell me what's the correct system, they just said there's multiple ways to look up reward bookings and only 1 way works for JL flights.

Where are you trying to go? Difficult to advice without knowing the exact route, generally speaking it would be better to book the entire ticket with QFF as you will be protected should you misconnect due to IRROP, but there are exceptions if the additional miles will push you into the next point bucket.

I recall discussion in recent weeks about surface sectors and their impact on the five stop maximum. Are both cities either end of a surface sector counted towards the five stops, or just one?

No. Just the one.

IIRC there was a member who was being told both cities count but the CSA couldn’t identify which of the award rules applied.

The member used the HUCA method and the itinerary was correctly calculated and priced by a different CSA.

Hi guys, getting set for booking my first 280k award booking for my partner and myself.

A few questions? If we both have enough points in each of our accounts, do we need to pool our points into one of the accounts to be able to make a booking over the phone? Presume it would be safer to pool them if booking online to ensure we both get our flights together. Any thoughts?

If we use the call back function, is it thought that to be better quality of service? Also is there a good time of day to call?

If we book the first half of our trip (online), then the second half (by phone).

We are looking at PER-HKG-VAN-ORD or JFK, then a few weeks before heading to Europe, are we best to try and sort the PER to USA flights, then book the remainer when they become available?

Can you use the BA affiliate Openskies as part of an award booking? One popped up as the second leg of a MIA-EWR-ORY route under a BA flight number?

I'm thinking it is not a valid airline for a 280k OneWorld award, but hope I'm wrong.
