Quick Question, RTW J fares, what is the class of travel if No J exists, for example domestically in the USA on AA?

Not with QF awards- it's [-]X[/-] T!

Usually A/P (First).
That's pretty neat. thanks, I was expecting the worst! and AA in whY really is the worst......

Sadly that is not the case with QFF awards- it's Economy for a Business class awards on two class F/Y services!

(First class "A" for DONEx, DGLOBnn's & DCIRnn's which are revenue fares)

While not wishing to dispute that AA domestic fares booked as part of a J QFF RTW ticket are in economy, it's worth making the point that on AA international flights you get bumped up to F if you are on a J RTW fare.
We're doing a J Oneworld RTW later this year and our three AA segments from NRT-DFW-CUN-MIA have all been allocated in F.

We're on AA2029 from DFW-CUN and AA2118 from CUN-MIA (both flights at the end of August).
Seatguru shows both these flights as 2 class (F & Y) and our seats are in First (rows 3 and 4 respectively) so I have no reason to think my info wasn't accurate.

Absolutely, hence my post of this:

A J RTW fare booked as a "oneworld Explorer" or as a "Global Explorer" indeed books into A (First) class on those flights.

Might I suggest you recheck those bookings on AA.com and research the actual fare bucket code.

Assuming you have not paid a rather large sum for the fare, for First it would likely be A or P and, for Business, D or I - personally I suspect the latter having flown to Mexico on AA "up front". (same cabin, same service, less SC's...)

As per the name of this thread I booked the whole trip for 280K FF points pp, Serfty, so no cash changed hands other than for the fees. The booking details aren't much use either because both the QAN and AA booking info just record all our flight segments as "U". So both sites still list the bucket code for the AA flights in and out of Mexico as "Business - U" despite the fact there's no J cabin on those flights.

U is indeed reward business class.

What seatguru does not tell you is as follows ...

AA do not sell First on 2 class flights to the Caribbean and Mexico. They sell J, D, C, I and U for Business and Y, B, H L M etc for economy.

They call the "First" cabin "Business" and market it as such.

Between MIA/DFW and CUN those in business are in the same seats they sell as first in 2 class domestic USA flights.

Now, let's go back to Reload's question upthread which sparked this debate:
Quick Question, RTW J fares, what is the class of travel if No J exists, for example domestically in the USA on AA?
Mexico is not "domestically in the USA" so bookings to from CUN are not relevant to that question.

What is releveant to that question is that on a 280K FF point booking, if you travelled from LAX to DFW you would be in Economy as AA do not sell "Business" on that segment, only "First" and "Economy" - Qantas will put you in economy as there is no U class.

As always, your explanation is succinct Serfty - and I am wiser for it.

Hi guys, long time lurker – first time poster.
I was wondering if you could help me out on a few things.
My partner and I have accumulated 140k points and would love to use them on a RTW trip Mid Dec 2013 to Late Jan/Early Feb 2014.
In the points calculator it shows this as possible for 140k, but when I go to actually book it, the result is a cost of 194k points.
Also another concern I have is are my partner and I going to be able to sit next to each other considering that our accounts aren’t linked in any way?

Here is the proposed itinerary. If you advise on where I’m going wrong I would greatly appreciate it:

13 Dec: MEL -> LHR (via DXB)
2 Jan: LCY -> MAD
9 Jan: MAD -> YYZ (via LCY and LHR)
24 Jan: YYZ -> JFK
29 Jan: JFK -> LAX
4 Feb: LAX -> MEL

All opinions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

First off I would combine all your points in to the one account so that you just go through the booking process once.

You don't list what airlines you are using with your itinerary. You must use at least 2 airlines other than QF for it to price at the 140k level.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I'll look into the points combination thing. Will there be major issues if we can't amalgamate the points into one account?
Reading the eligibility it seems that we won't be eligible till were married (Sept.) and can only transfer 100k every 12 months (we both just under 150k points).

Here are the airlines:
13 Dec: MEL -> LHR (via DXB) - Emirates
2 Jan: LCY -> MAD – British Airways
9 Jan: MAD -> YYZ (via LCY and LHR) – British Airways
24 Jan: YYZ -> JFK – American Airlines
29 Jan: JFK -> LAX – American Airlines
4 Feb: LAX -> MEL - Qantas

Sorry forgot about the 100k limit each year.

There is your issue right there, can't use Emirates they aren't a part of OneWorld.
