I know surcharges on IB and BA suck, and LHR is bad; but which is worst? I can go SCL-LHR on BA, or SCL-MAD on IB ... mind you the ultimate destination in Europe is KTT (can't use my OWA as I'm short of allowed miles), so at least LHR is slightly closer and cheaper for a cash ticket ...

Not so sure about surcharges but the business class experience on IB will be better than the cramped business class seats on BA.
 
I splurged on an expertflyer subscription - but have now realised it doesn't take into account your status for QF, ie it won't show anything 353 days out. Boooo.

FYI: KVS Tool fully supports Extended Award Availability for Elite QFF Members (when using the [Awards/QF-OneWorld] Method and the appropriate Credentials are entered in the [Settings] Tab).
 
I need some help with a little bit of " outside the square " thinking.
I have all my OWA bookings except New York to San Francisco on 27 December 2020 for 2 people.
There doesn't appear to be any availability and I need some help, whether it involves several stops or not.
I would prefer J but Y will suffice.

My full itinerary for reference is:
Sept/Oct
SINxHKG-AMS <stop 1>

I would try to look at the following:
SIN-DOH-AMS <Stop 1>
EUROPE - HKG/NRT- BNE <stop2>
(fly from many different Europe destinations straight to HKG/NRT or through HEL (AY) or DOH(QR) - remember you can transit twice at a city or even have a stop over since you are only using 4 our of 5 stops)

BNE/SYD- HND <stop 3>
NRT-HKG-ADL<end>

Well you've got a plethora of connecting options but whether or not they are available as award seats is another story.

I see the QF engine is only giving two AS options when searching point-to-point. I suggest lending the engine a hand and using the multi-city function, searching via other hubs. For example, try searching via DFW, ORD, CLT, PHL, PHX or MIA. You may also need to consider catching a train to PHL or similar and starting from there.
 
Using ITA as a guide, SCL-MAD on IB has YQ of $480 USD (ouch!)
SCL-LHR $263 USD, but also the LHR APD is another $200 odd I believe? So pretty comparable on price. Unsure how this actually relates to the real world.
EZE-MAD on IB is a bit more reasonable at $287.

So, fingers crossed, I'm going to try tomorrow to lock in the first half up to Europe:
kix-syd (stop) -scl-eze (stop) -mad-(bud or vie or fra or vie, stop) - doh - mel (stop) -kix
Ultimate destination in Europe is KTT, but I just don't have the miles spare :(

Another option was Mnl-hkg-syd-scl-eze-lhr-hel-sin-syd-mnl ....... but it seems HEL-SIN is near impossible to get.
Mnl-hkg-syd-scl-eze-mad-hel-doh-adl-mnl might be easier, and just sneaks under the miles.

Any sage words of advice? Any experience with taxes and surcharges ex-Japan vs ex-Philippines?
 
Called QF to make changes to my flights. Unfortunately caught out by married segments on QR, so cannot change Milan to SIN to AMS - SIN even though there are seats available when you search each individual flight.

Edit - also caught out on JL, as I was J from SFO to HND, and premium economy from HND - SIN. A J seat is now available from HND-SIN and I am unable to book that on the same flight.

If a J is available for SFO-HND, U could break the two up so long as its under 24 hours without using a stop over

Thanks for that suggestion. I'm currently J SFO-HND, but not HND-SIN. I do have a layover in HND for about 6 hrs. I will call QF and see if I can split the tickets up and be within my segments.
 
My main question still is - is it possible to fly MIA-DFW (land at 9am) and then DFW-HND (depart 11am)? Is Qantas able to combine them into a single ticket so I don't have to re-check in?
Yes, that connection at DFW is easily doable. Why would they be on separate tickets? The whole OWA is on a single ticket - that's kinda the point.

I am working on a 2 section rtw J booking travelling some 6 months apart– It is getting tight with stopovers and sectors .

I am not thinking the best and can’t seem to search this thread, but can you help clarify the following

I will be flying, in one of the 2 broken up sections

BNE-SYD(transit) -HKG (transit)-CTU-surface (for 7 days) -HKG (transit) -SIN-home on my own expense til i return 6 months later.

I understand that the computer will regard that as 5 sectors.

SIN is going to be treated as a stopover.

I am interested in whether QFF will treat HKG-CTU surface - HKG as a stopover as well.

I would value your thoughts.

My proposed legs are:
PERxHKG - AMS stopover 1 (already booked and ticketed for 21 Jan 2021)
AMSxHEL - ARN stopover 2
ARN - BGO stopover 3
BGO - HEL stopover 4
HEL - HND stopover 5
HND - SIN - PER (to come back home and I have found this flight operates on a Saturday)

So my proposed sectors are:
PER-HKG-AMS-HEL-ARN-BGO-HEL-HND-SIN-PER
or maybe
PER-HKG-AMS-HEL-ARN-BGO-HEL-HND- East coast OZ – PER

I cannot seem to find any opportunity to fly back to Australia from Japan except through Asia (which I would like to avoid). I am sure I saw something out of Osaka to the east coast of Oz a couple of weeks ago but cannot find it again (it was just background checking so it was not on my window of dates).

Question 1:The flights awards from HEL to ARN and to BGO are in the main operated by Wederoe for Finnair. Do these flights qualify in the Oneworld Classic reward? If they are not then we just might book them separately with points and have HEL only as a stopover and not use it to transit.

Question 2: If I book all the flights – lets say six separate sectors – can I ring Qantas and have them all put together?

Question 3: I know it is best to book the longer flights as they come up but I wondered whether I should wait until the final leg (back to PER) is available before I book all the shorter internal flights.

This is my first attempt at doing a Oneworld classic rewards and I have to say it is a challenge.

Re Q1, affiliate airlines do count for bookings on a OWA ( eg like Comair) but not always. I know Wederoe codeshares with Finnair but i am not too confident they count for a OWA- I dread the answers you will get from QFF if you ask them .
Re Q2 ,you cannot take a separate booked itinerary and add it to an already booked one like the OWA.
Re Q3, my experience is that there are plenty of J award seats in europe so no mad rush to add them and incur the 5000 points pp each time fee.

I think CTU would be considered a stopover in this case, as it will be a city that you are arriving in and not leaving within 24 hours.

There is one single OW flight a day into BGO. That's an AY flight from HEL - BGO, operated by Wideroe for AY. This can be included on a OWA booking.

I had this booked this booked as part of a OWA last year. Unfortunately AY had a schedule change and cancelled that flight on the day I needed. This presented a problem as I had a ship to catch. So if you're heading to BGO for a cruise, try arrive a day early :)

I'm starting to plan my oneworld itinerary and I like the idea of splitting the travel into 2 parts, maybe a month at the start of the 12 months and a month of travel at the end.

I believe that means starting or ending the itinerary outside of Australia. I'm in Melbourne and I have seen suggestions of Bali and Singapore, but I would be interested in other suggestions that will work and be a short cheap flight?

New Zealand came to mind - does that work? Other thoughts please?
