Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you already have an eticket for your other flights, then changes/additions are only possible by phoning the QF Call Centre.

Edit: HAV is a special case from memory. An AFFer has raised this issue previously, maybe upthread somewhere.

And welcome to AFF.

Thank you DC3, I did a little research and it does seem that I'll need to call QF to book HAV.

I'm wanting to visit Havana in my OWA, however, HAV does not come up in the QF search. I can see that there are flights from MAD on IB and MIA on AA. Will I need to call QF to book?

You cannot fly between HAV and LOTFAP at all (award or paid) as a tourist. It's part of the blockade of anything commercial.

So, if you manage to get into HAV on IB, you'll also need to get out on IB if you want to avoid buying separate tickets.

You may be better looking to get to CUN (or maybe MEX) and then buy CUN-HAV-CUN. I can recommend Interjet as a reasonable Mexican airline (good legroom in whY). It's only about a 1h flight.

This is going to likely come accross as a silly question.
But if you book the seperate sectors, but its a transit stop (within 24 hrs).
Do you have to transfer checked luggage?
(is it the same even if its different airlines?)
Im looking at a europe then Canada trip, but will have my hockey gear, and dont want to have to lug it everywhere for a quick trip into a city etc.

It depends. ;)

Many airports (even some very large ones), for example, do not have the facilities to hold checked luggage overnight.

For a simple transfer on the same day, same airline or alliance, on the same PNR, then it should be okay.

In any case, best to confirm when checking the bags in, if luggage will be through-checked.

If changing airlines at the transfer point, assume that you will be collecting and re-checking the bags.

Edit: And welcome to AFF. Also, you may be able to re-check bags in, then go to the city. However, there may be restrictions (such as 3 hours before the flight). You would need to check at the airport.

Thanks for the quick response, i found this place due to trying to do a multi city via qantas website with no end of trouble. Firstly the classic only 6 stops, secondly it only wants to show you whatever route options it wants to show you (even when you know there is others).
I think ill be in for a nice long call once my points clear so i can book :(

That's not a silly question.
I would also like to know in advance so that I can plan ahead.
Unfortunately I've not managed to find an answer online anywhere.
I've been advised to contact the airlines directly or ask at check in.
I couldn't find an answer for earliest bag drop times either.
Once I was en route from Durban to Perth via Johannesburg.
The Durban check-in refused to check in my bags to Perth as there was more than a 6 hour wait in Johannesburg. She could not guarantee the safety of my bags ( a real enough concern in South Africa sadly). I had done this many times previously with no problem but suddenly was told this.
Luckily a supervisor stepped in and the bags were checked through.

I do know that Bag drop is only when check in is open, Circa 3 hrs before flight time usually.
me and friends found this out when we got dropped to an airport early (we got a lift from another friend on the way to work an hr earlier then when we would like to have been there.)

There is no single simple all-encompassing answer. There are some generalisations you can make e.g. bag drop for Aus international flights is 3 hrs, BUT there can be large variations between different airlines, between different countries, between different airports, what customs & immigration formalities are involved and between dom. and int. flights.
Plus, as Bookworm found out, the "rules" can change from day to day at the whim of the check-in people and whether they are in the mood to be helpful, or not.

You will need to make your own enquiries on a case-by-case basis

Catherine, welcome to AFF.
Despite managing to find this thread, it appears you haven't bothered to read any of it to familiarise yourself with even the basics of the One World Award. That's something you need to rectify because everything you need to know is right here.

A stopover is any city in the world where you have more than 24 hours between flights
A transit is where you have a gap of less than 24 hours between flights.
A segment is just an individual flight - you need to not confuse this with a "transit"

This Wiki will give you an overview:

Thanks for all advice about SYD-SCL flights, I think we'll lock in PE flights. I am just waiting a couple days in the hope I can add SCL-LHR flights on BA - only problem, these flights aren't showing on QF site, despite being available on AA and BA sites! *cries*

Hey guys, I changed a date of one leg via the chat, first they said no availability but I could see it, and they checked again and finally did.

Next, they wanted to charge an extra 7700pts/pax (in addition to the regular 5k) but had to insist and they removed it.

Anyway, I can see the date change now (on all the other carriers website too) but haven't yet received the updated tix, nor has my card been charged the difference in taxes ($59), nor the points. They said it takes upto 24hours but wondered what the experience has been lately with those?

Please follow up immediately and stay on the line until they issue the tickets. Past experience has resulted in lost flights for me and having to draw up a new itinerary.
Please ensure that you receive the tickets in your inbox.

It should never take 24 hours, in my experience.

If there’s no re-issued e-ticket after one hour, I would be phoning them again. There’s nothing to be gained by waiting around, but plenty to be lost.

No re-tickets yet, but status of the CX leg in q.com and CX shows confirmed from waitlisted and I could select my seats on CX, call centre gave the same spiel waiting for CX to confirm
