"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Yes you can book any QR flight as part of the award.
You can’t book a flight starting in DOH online as Qantas does not accept the Qatar currency.
If this is the first flight of you OWA then you can call to have this booked and the points fee for doing a phone booking should be waived.
If you are adding this to an existing OWA you will be charged 5,000pts per person.
Thanks for your reply. I've attempted to book Athens-Doh-Saigon. The QANTAS multi city award booking does not allow this, even though it starts in Athens.

We need the following information to continueFlight 3: Ho Chi Minh City is not available on the Classic Flight Rewards. Select 'Use money, points or both' to continue.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My experience has been once you've started you can't change but if they have changed your flights you should be able to negotiate. Good luck and if not HUACA
Don't have personal experience but I have never seen a reference in the Ts & Cs regarding a change of stopover to a transfer or vice versa being not allowed - assuming the restriction of 2 transfers and one stopover per city would not be breached by the change.

I'm confident the agent's advice to you in that regard is wrong, simply because the allowed changes to the date of travel would, in a great many instances, involve as a consequence, a change from a stopover to transfer or vice versa.
I'd ring back and get a different agent to make the changes you want.
Keep phoning and hope that you get Oz or NZ next time, or HUACA.

That stopover/transit business sounds like SA or Manila? It’s the same routing and carrier isn’t it, just a flight/date change?

Edit: I would not be raising the subject of transits. You are requesting a flight/date change. I have no personal experience with changes after trip commencement
Thanks all. I did speak with the Australian premium desk originally. They proactively mentioned the transit/stop issue and didn't bother to search for flights. All I said was I wanted to see if I could change it to a day earlier.

Rang again, got the NZ desk. Turns out (according to the agent) they can do a date and time change, provided it is the same flight number and cabin, which wasn't available in my case. Other flights at different times with same origin, destination and COS were available, but because the flight number was different, they would not be able to change it.

My guess is that the "provided the Flight Segment(s) being changed do not include a partner airline that requires a ticket to be reissued for the change" is the problem - change of flight number would require a reissue.

Just noting do you have Status with QF?

I am Gold and have rung twice on different days at10:30am and have got the most helpful Australian ladies that have been so knowledgeable and a pleasure.
No longer, am a lowly bronze now, however thankyou for your reply, it is good to know some people have a pleasurable experience with their contact. (Gives me hope )

Good Day,

So sorry, I know that this has come up before :
If I book in economy/premium economy for 1 leg due to business class not being available currently, can I later change to business class if this becomes available?(before travel commences)

Can anyone advise from personal experience if/how they achieved success in booking J DOH-PER?(bronze)
I'm unable to search online for this leg. Looking for flights after 23/10/20

Thank you so much for all your kind assistance.

Yes, you can, just call and change it.
Dont say 'upgrade', say you want to remove the Y leg and add an available J leg on the existing booking.

DOH-PER?(bronze) I'm unable to search online for this leg.

may be worth checking to see if it's a married segment (QR). Try putting a break of more than 24 hours between the flights to see if it makes a difference (you could use a dummy booking to test for just the flight in and out of DOH).

There are 2 ways you can search for availability:

1. try an alternative Oneworld program, e.g. BA or JAL, which may be indicative of availability with Qantas
2. try searching for a return award with Qantas, using Flexible dates so you can select an outward (dummy) date and your actual return date.

If you find anything, you will have to call to book.

We're halfway through booking a OWA Classic Business atm. Booked QF across to DFW, AA up to ANC (economy sadly), and JAL from LAX back to SYD. Plenty more AA to book internally once they become available.

My question is, how to I seat select on AA?

As a QF customer, QF is fine. JAL allow me to use the QF booking ref and seat select there no probs. AA allow me to open the booking, but tell me to contact QF to seat select. QF tell me to contact AA.

Anyone got any ideas on how to seat select on AA as a QF/OWA customer?

Go to AA.com>Your trips/check in, and enter name and PNR.

Edit: If you do not have the AA PNR, the QF Call Centre can provide it.

Thank you so much to Brianflyer and blu.

i have tried and saw availability via KUL . I was already booked LHR-DOH, and couldn’t input Doha as the flight of origin for the last bit of the trip.
So I started this bit from LHR, to Doha to Perth. I am seeing availability DOH-PER via KUL.
I do want to spend a few days in Doha, does this still count as a married sector?

Two long calls today did not achieve any results, unfortunately I called before trying your tips and did not what was available. One consultant told me to call QR directly and check for availability.

Will try again soon.

QF uses Amadeus; AA uses Sabre. It's advantageous when you make a OWA or a (revenue) xONEx (ie. 'true' RTW) booking to get the PNR for both as soon as you've made the booking.

You don't need to call - but unfortunately I've forgotten how to get hold of both PNRs online. But it is simple, so the important thing is to realise that you need to get both. Just fiddle around until you get the right prompt.

In the first instance, just try plugging into AA MMB the Amadeus code and see if it flicks you over to the Sabre code. Once you have both, it's plain sailing.

If you spend a few days in DOH, it is a stopover, not a married segment.

FWIW: QR flights to/from Australia are becoming increasingly difficult to get.
Thank you so much, you are so right.

Just curious about baggage allowances.
If we’re booked in J for the most part and have the privilege of extra baggage allowances, what is the situation if one sector is booked in Y?
Thank you so much

Economy is fine (as I'm paying not using points). Need return flights HKG - Melb:
Arriving HKG (from Europe) @ 2035hrs on 22/4.
Dept HKG @ 2345hrs on 28/7
I have a similar issue getting home from Singapore. Planning on using LM which are appearing good value even in economy, much cheaper than buying a one way economy ticket.

When searching for AA flights on QF website to add to my existing OWA, I'm not getting a lot of options from YYC (Calgary). I've used the AA site and managed to find some Classic-equivalent awards (MileSAaver) that don't appear available via QF.

Has anyone had any experience landing an AA award that doesn't appear on the QF website?

Unless QF can see it, you won’t be able to book it as a QF Award, of course.

AA has been selling revenue tickets DFW-YYC and vv, across the board. There is also good availability with AA Business/First Aanytime, but these are of no use for the QF Business Awards. There have been no Milesaavers available on AA flights for this route during at least May-August that I’ve seen, for example.

What I expect (hoping to see) is that at some stage Milesaavers will be released closer to the dates that I’m after. As I need seats on this route, I’ve set alerts on EF.

Edit: I should add that where the AA site shows award seat availability to/from YYC, look deeper to see if airlines such as AS or WS form part of it, as being non-OneWorld, they are not available to be included in QF Awards.

What I'm seeing is Milesaaver awards available on the AA site, and no similar Classic awards available for the same flights on the QF site.

Has anyone seen this before?

Yes, awards aren't always released to partners. If you want to be sure it isn't a QF error, check on another OW partner such as BA or JL.
