"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

You need to be booking on QF website as multicity Classic Award....(not Round the World).

Sep 19 wont be released yet - you will need to add this leg before commencing your first flight...tricky if you are leaving Sep 18

Am trying to book a 280K RTW x2 commencing in BKK, as we already have a separate EK F booking from SYD to BKK.

I have struck a couple of roadblocks, but am hoping someone will be able to suggest some work arounds.

Got onto the oneworld website via QF RTW link so chose following flights:

BKK-HKG (CX) -DOH-ARN- (QR)-HEL (AY) 5/6 September.
HEL-OSL (AY) 8 Sept.
Surface to AMS
AMS-LHR-YTO (BA) 20 Sept

Can't get sector YTO-YVR so entered as surface travel 24 Sept

YVR-NRT (transfer to HND) HND-SYD (QF) 29 Sept
-BKK (QF) 17 May 2019

one world doesn't raise any flags to indicate this doesn't fit within the RTW parameters.

However I can't see any flights YTO-YVR. so entered as a surface sector to'complete' the trip.

Also when I go to price the trip oneworld gives a price in thai bht and doesn't convert to 280K+ thai bht taxes.

Lasrt sector SYD-BKK could only be booked for 17 May 2019 latest and I want to fly this sector September 2019.

Any suggestions very gratefully received.

TIA

You are booking it the wrong way. Need to book via Qantas site selecting the Multi-City option.

The old issue of OneWorld Award bookings NOT being RTW (ie. OneWorld Explorer or Global Explorer) fares.

There is no requirement to literally go RTW on a OneWorld Award (although that is probably what most people maxxing these out do.)

It seems to constantly cause confusion.

The third paragraph under the Wiki heading does not help. It implies the Award is RTW. (Edit: the article linked to that is quite clear that it's a multi-city. It's the text in the link that's misleading.)

Maybe that sentence needs re-phrasing or another added to state clearly that these Award itineraries do NOT need to go RTW to be valid. (The bigger limitation for the maxxers is likely to be the 35K miles ceiling.)

For you flight YTO - YVR you could always organise your own flight YTO - JFK then catch CX865 from JFK to VVR.

Hi guys, is anyone else having trouble seeing Business class (and even a lot of economy) award availability for May/June 2019

Have been watching and all days (up to approx 10th June) had business availability yesterday, now today, there is none showing up on the 28 day window.

Could it just be a Friday bug? Hopefully, it will resolve itself in the next day or so.

Edit: found the answer why, Cathay availability not showing up on BA or Qantas atm
What's Going on With Cathay Pacific Award Availability?

Not progressing very fast partially due to problems with the CX awards Hopefully normal service will be resumed soon.

So if I've understood correctly there are 2 separate situations, both needing to be booked on the QF site if using QF points.

First scenario is a QF award using O/W QF partners including OW and EK. Gets charged as a one way flight according to the QF Int Partners table.

Second scenario is a OW RTW (or circular route) using only OW partners to bring traveller back to startng point (for purpose of calculating OW points charge (280K in J), although it isn't actually necessary to return to starting point, but when you miss a flight award is completed.

Advice if this is correct please. TKS

Correct - if you include EK it becomes a one way booking (priced per segment?). I'd suggest trying to work around it using another partner as while EK availability is good, taxes are high and obviously your points cost will be high as well.

Second scenario, "RTW" is really quite misleading, mileage calc needs to go back to origin if you arbitrarily end elsewhere. Correct in that if you miss a flight the rest of the ticket is cancelled.

The first scenario is a classic award not covered in this thread. The second scenario is called a OneWorld Award, and is the subject of this thread, as the thread name suggests.

The second neither has to be RTW nor circular and the use of those incorrect terms does nothing except cause harm and promulgate error and mistrust within society.

Howzat? ;)

You do not have to return to the starting point, either - that bit is right.

What's Going on With Cathay Pacific Award Availability?

I don't seem to be having an issue with Cathay over the past month. Even when I checked today I could find flights for May/June next year. Got 3 weeks until I can book the first part of my Oneworld Award so have been keeping a close eye on it.

Only issue I have found is a lot of LATAM flights have disappeared off the Qantas awards site. Hoping these will still be available when I have to book through the phone agent.

So far my trip is as follows except for where exactly I end up in Europe:
PER - HKG - NRT - YVR (CX/JL) (No business awards showing for HKG to YVR on Cathay otherwise will go HKG - YVR)
YVR - JFK (CX)
JFK - MIA - UIO (AA/LA)
GRU - MAD? - ??? (LA/IB)
??? - HEL (AY)
DME - OVB - PEK - HKG - PER (S7/CX)

The problem was resolved on Monday night. From Friday AM to Monday PM, there was no availibility on Cathay. It has now been fixed, was a bug for a few days.

Just started my booking process for my 280k award.

Did the call back the other day and spoke with the Premium team (so +1 to the person above that recommended the call back option).

Concerned about the ground segment being counted as two stopovers, surely, it was just a poorly informed agent.

I still can't see any award J seats from CX from HK to Vancouver. Only PE seats. am I missing anything?
Nope. It changed a couple of weeks ago. There is only like 5 seats in the whole year that are available. Hope more come back cause I would rather that than go via Tokyo

Does anyone have any insight on availability to SCL? Ideally from Melbourne and starting to look from May/June 2019

I'm seeing availability SYD-AKL-SCL (and frustratingly SYD-MEL-AKL-SCL) but nothing for MEL-SCL or MEL-AKL-SCL

route I'm looking at is the below:

syd-akl-scl
scl-mad
waw-doh
doh-icn
icn-kul-mel

for some reason this is erroring out before reaching the payment screen, anything obvious wrong here? length is ~30k miles including surface sectors
