woohoo ... fast track security and more baggage allowance on ow airlines..... News - oneworld

oneworld[SUP]®[/SUP] today unveiled two more benefits for the most regular customers of its member airlines, as part of its strategy of positioning itself as the first choice airline alliance for frequent international travelers.
From midnight tonight, frequent flyer cardholders with oneworld Emerald status will be entitled to:

  • An extra checked baggage allowance, above the standard limit for the cabin class in which they are traveling - either one additional item where the piece concept applies, or an extra 20 kg (44 lbs) where the weight concept applies - when they fly on any oneworld member airline.
  • Use fast track lanes through security when flying from select key airports worldwide on select oneworld member airlines.
These new benefits are in addition to those already offered to frequent flyers with oneworld Emerald status when flying on any oneworld member airline in any class, including:

  • Earning mileage rewards and tier status points.
  • Access to First Class or Business Class lounges on departure, accompanied by a guest. oneworld is the only alliance to offer top tier frequent flyers access to First Class lounges when they are not booked to travel in the First Class cabin.
  • Ability to check-in at First Class or Business Class desks.
  • Priority boarding.
  • Priority on waitlists and when on standby if a flight is fully booked.
  • Access to preferred and pre-reserved seating when offered by the airline operating the flight.
Emerald is the highest status in the oneworld frequent flyer programme. It is held by:

  • airberlin topbonus Platinum cardholders.
  • American Airlines AAdvantage Executive Platinum.
  • British Airways Executive Club Gold.
  • Cathay Pacific Marco Polo Club Diamond.
  • Finnair Plus Platinum.
  • Iberia Plus Platinum.
  • Japan Airlines Mileage Bank (JMB) Diamond and JAL Global Club (JGC) Premier.
  • LAN's LANPASS Comodoro.
  • Malaysia Airlines Enrich Platinum, from midnight tonight.
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum One and Platinum.
  • Royal Jordanian Royal Plus Platinum.
  • S7 Priority Platinum.
oneworld Chief Executive Bruce Ashby said: "oneworld aims to be the first choice airline alliance for regular international travellers. Our frequent flyer benefits - which we believe are the most compelling offered by any airline alliance - provide them with the highest levels of recognition, services and benefits when they need to travel beyond their home airline's own network."
The introduction of these new benefits coincides with the addition of Malaysia Airlines, one of Asia's leading carriers, to oneworld. From midnight tonight, the 2 million members of its Enrich loyalty programme will enjoy oneworld's frequent flyer services and benefits whenever they fly with any oneworld partner airline - airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines and some 30 affiliated airlines - to any of the 850 destinations they serve worldwide.
This includes earning and redeeming mileage awards and earning tier status points when flying with all these airlines. (See notes below)
Enrich Platinum cardholders will have Emerald status in the oneworld programme. Enrich Gold will be equivalent to oneworld Sapphire and Enrich Silver will be oneworld Ruby.
From midnight tonight, Enrich Platinum and Gold cardholders will be able to use any of the 550 airport lounges worldwide offered by oneworld member airlines whenever they fly with any of the alliance's carriers. (See notes below)

With the two new enhancements announced today, these are the benefits offered to oneworld Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby cardholders in any oneworld member airline's frequent flyer programme when flying in any cabin class on any oneworld member airline:

(Dreads to mention)

Priority boarding for Gold.......

What a fantastic bit of news that is, bravo OW, bravo.

Makes CX even tastier as a QF WP, now QF how about that status bonus on CX....... ;)

Re: One World introduces standard extra baggage allowance for elites and priority lan

Was there a list of the "select key airports" in which OWEs get access to fast track security? A quick Google doesn't show anything up - obviously this is very recent news though.

Re: One World introduces standard extra baggage allowance for elites and priority lan

Really good news, this should give a good kick to *A and increase the value of OWE. Often I have flown AY Intra Europe as they have been offering these new benefits to OWE for a while.

Re: One World introduces standard extra baggage allowance for elites and priority lan

This is good news, but I note the website (Home - oneworld) hasn't been updated as yet anyway. Maybe by the morning! Would be nice if priority tagging came with the increase in luggage, but you can't win them all... was really hoping arrivals lounge access could be something they'd consider making an alliance-wide benefit. Would really differentiate themselves.

Fast track airports have been released, hopefully, LAX is restricted to T4 not TBIT :(.

Re: One World introduces standard extra baggage allowance for elites and priority lan

Why would this give a "kick" to *A?

Those benefits have been standard across the *A for as long as I've been a *A "elite"??

Isn't this just a (long overdue and no doubt very welcome) catch up?

Re: One World introduces standard extra baggage allowance for elites and priority lan

Wonder if the fast track lanes will piggy back off existing fast track facilities such as the express path in Oz.

Re: One World introduces standard extra baggage allowance for elites and priority lan

Long overdue but great news nevertheless. Always thought that this should be the least of a benefit for OW elites. Will be of great use for me intra-Europe especially...

Re: One World introduces standard extra baggage allowance for elites and priority lan

Interesting in a sense that it's only for Emeralds, clearly it was a hard fight against some member airlines to get this added, or we would have 1 piece for Sapphire and 2 for Emerald... would have made much more sense IMO.

Re: One World introduces standard extra baggage allowance for elites and priority lan

Wonder if this is in addition to the existing benefits I get as a WP flying on QF? That would be four bags up to 128KGs.

Re: One World introduces standard extra baggage allowance for elites and priority lan

Wouldn't be in addition, I couldn't imagine that. At a minimum you'd get the alliance extra. Keep in mind, some carriers such as Finnair have been providing extra bags for all OW status, including Ruby for a while, and they will hopefully remain - superseding this. But this is definitely a safety net which I will be thankful for. No more sweating on whether getting screwed by AB.

The priority security is for the most part putting in writing what already is there. If you're using F check-in you often get the invite cards. Or in the case of AY again, I have always had access when flying Y from HEL.

Agreed it's definitely overdue. Either way, any day that sees additional alliance wide status benefits is a good day.

Yes it has been, and the benefit is for essentially the equivalent to OWS (ie QF gold), as the amount/type of travel to achieve star gold is roughly equivalent to that required to achieve OW sapphire. (higher tiers in star programs are not alliance wide, rather carrier specific).

New Oneworld Emerald privileges

I have a question regarding the "new" benefits announced this week for WP/Emerald: extra 20kg (or 1 additional bag) and Fast track security.
On the oneworld website there is now a drop down menu listing some airports apparently offering Fast track security: Emerald privileges - oneworld

I haven't been to all the airports in the list, but I don't get what the new security benefit is? First of all, IIRC even OW Ruby get fast track security with AA, so not really an Emerald benefit. If you fly CX out of MEL as a OW Sapphire they give you an express pass at checkin. Anyone has an idea of what is new exactly?

(I couldn't find a thread dedicated to the "new" Emerald benefits so I thought I would start one)

Re: New Oneworld Emerald privileges

BNE, MEL, SYD and TXL all have
*Due to local restrictions or agreements with Security Fast Track facility operators, not all oneworld carriers are currently able to extend this benefit to all Emerald-tier customers.
which is odd as you say, just about any status holder can get fast tracked through security in AU.

One World are formalising a benefit already offered by many countries, that's all it is, locally the fast track program has been on offer to top tier members across all the alliances, that was the aim of the program when it was formulated by the government.

I believe that Joshua summed it up correctly by saying it is 'a safety net' and many airlines will still offer above the minimum.
