One-Way International Flight - Any issue at Check-in?

Hi, I picked up some cheap one-way flights from BNE - AMS on Garuda via DPS and CGK. Does anyone know if Garuda will require an onward or return ticket at check-in? I am taking long service leave of about 7 months and plan on spending the time in Europe (Schengen zone) and the UK and not sure where or when we (2 adults and 2 children) want to fly home from, so a one-way ticket suits us. We hold Australian Passports and are aware of the visa rules in terms of the 90days within 180days for the Schengen zone.

I have been in contact with the Netherlands Consulate in Australia who advised: 'Australian passport holders may enter the Netherlands on a one-way ticket, however upon arrival in the Netherlands, local immigration officers may ask for proof of sufficient financial means. This is in case a traveler has been refused entry into the Netherlands and the traveler will have to purchase a return ticket.

Local airlines in Australia are responsible for the fact that their passengers are in possession of a valid passport and/or visa if necessary. Upon checking in their passengers, the local airlines may request that a traveler is in possession of a return ticket and/or a visa. In case an airline accepts a passenger on their flight, and the passenger does not have the appropriate documents upon arrival in the Netherlands, the airline will receive a substantial penalty and will have to bear the cost of flying the passenger back to Australia at the airline's expense.

It is therefore strongly advised to check with your airline, if the airline wants to accept you whilst travelling on a one-way ticket'.

I have sent Garuda an email but I have not heard back from them yet. I would like to know if anyone has flown on a one-way ticket with Garuda before internationally and if they had any problems?

To be honest, it could be a case by case situation. But this is what Timatic says. Don't seem to think they will require a return ticket?

I doubt you'll have trouble at Netherlands border control - never been asked to show any proof of funds / return ticket at passport control.

Worst case, be prepared to buy a fully flexible onward / return ticket just in case and then cancel it...

We arrived at CDG on Monday I'm on a Kiwi passport traveling for a month on 2 one way tickets. SWMBO is on EU on a 1 way traveling for 3 months. At no time have either of us been asked to show any travel documentation. All our itenarys are in electronic form via tripit. At CDG SWMBO breezed through I took maybe 10 sec longer with no questions asked, I was quite surprised I wasn't asked to show proof of a return ticket. Or do they have a record on their computer these days?

Thanks for the advice Ermen and aupirate. I think we will be okay, but I will be prepared as advised.

ermen has posted the TIMATIC excerpt. Passports must be valid for three months after the intended stay.

If you have a one way ticket the return date is not specified. If you are denied entry, GA will be responsible for carrying you home.

GA would be within their rights to refuse boarding from AU without a return ticket.
