I have a trip over the Christmas and New Year period to Europe which is on one PNR but I want to credit the Star Alliance legs to NZ AP and the CX leg to QF FF.

Credit to NZ AP
AKL-PVG NZ W class
PVG-VIE OS S class
ZRH-HKG SR S class

Credit to QF FF
HKG-ADL CX V class

The main thing I don't want to stuff up is the CX flight crediting to QF as I need the status credits on my account by the end of January 2018 (that leg is on 7 January).

What's the best strategy? Remove all FF details and do each one manually upon check-in? Try my luck and sort out retrospectively? NZ has its own PNR, OS SR & CX share a common PNR. Thanks in advance experts!

There are a couple of other threads on AFF that address this very issue but I suspect they will be hard to find.

In my experience, you're in for a hard time. It's fine if you've got a couple of days between flights that will be credited to different programs but if, for example, you had CHC-BNE connecting to BNE-SIN on QF, the computer will take the FF number from the last flight (BNE-SIN) and us that for all sectors on that particular journey of the itinerary. In this example you could try asking a QF agent at BNE to insert your QF number for only that sector but its fraught with danger. Most agent will do a slap-dash job and simply assign the number to all sectors.

I believe most agents will tell you it can't be done but one option is to ask an agent (or, preferably, a travel agent if you booked that way) to insert your relevant FF number into the relevant field for each reservation.

Personally, if you are happy to fly without the status on your boarding pass and if you've got flights like the CHC NZ CHC QF SIN example above, I would not put your FF number in the booking at all and simply claim retrospectively, making it explicitly clear to each airline exactly which flights you want to credit to their program. Having flights uncredited is a messy business, even if an airline permits it.

(I'm assuming also you've checked that each particular fare class earns with whichever program you're wanting to credit to.)

In my experience you can usually get your FF number changed at checkin or at a lounge prior to boarding.

What is the stopover time you have in HKG?

I often fly on a single PNR with both QF and AV (star alliance) and depending on which site you book it through, usually can input both star alliance and one world FF programs (ie the QF flights credit to my QF FF, and the AV flights to them)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

How did you book it? It is super easy for an agent to airline associate different memberships. Then there is no doubt or hassle trying to swap and change things mid trip or at check in.
