Hi,

I'm trying to use the Oneworld online booking tool to book an LONE5 from NZ in Jan 2010. I've got all my city pairs organised, and the first flight is on AA to save in fuel fines. However- as the trip will be for 6 months I can't select flights past February. How do I get around this problem?

Off the top of my head I imagine it is possiblejust to book dummy dates and alter them later, but I'm not sure of the costs involved in this approach. Alternatively, are travel agents able to book me onto the flights? I'm willing to pay a bit more to go through a TA if they'll book AA, as I wish to book some tours anyway.

Thanks guys

Jon

Just phone the ATW desk and they can either do them as open sectors and you can add the dates later or you can put dummy dates in and change them later

The benefit of the former ( and the one I would go for ) is that it can still be issued as an electronic ticket whilst open sectors issued by AA will necessitate, I believe, the issue of paper tickets

Adding the dates as they become available will not cost anything

I would just put dummy dates in since it costs nothing to change a date of a flight and you would need to ring up again later to add dates for open dated segments regardless.

I know Dave Noble has said to ring the AA RTW desk, but if using dummy dates would the online system be better/just as good?

It's no major hassle to call them, just wondering if there is some advantage to this approach. Thanks for the help

If you can get it quoted online, could do that. I have never booked using online tool so don't know that much about it

Yes you get it all done on-line.
And provided the system does not argue to to about whats a transit and stop over and you can get the first leg on AA or an AA codeshare then your in business !

It has limitations and i did not use it last time (no AA codeshare ex ICN to Asia could be booked, only to USA) but seemed good.

Great stuff.

I've had a look online and have priced out an LONE5 with the first sector on AA:

AKL-LAX-DFW-PVR-DFW-EZE,(land) GIG-SCL-LIM-MAD-CAI-LHR-DXB-HKG-PER-MEL-AKL

Will be starting in Perth so obviously need to source a PER-AKL flight too.

Anyone forsee any problem with this itinerary, or have any suggestions to make? Taxes are not too bad, and LHR is a fairly essential stopover unfortunately. Wondering if it will be possible to complete the AA plat challenge early on in the trip too.

It prices out around 2230 USD

The trip is valid (42767 miles) :). You could maybe maximise the mileage a bit but without knowing your requirements can't help with how. Try playing with Mileage Monkey to see what you can do. When going intercontinental you can do things like (for example) LHR-LAX-JFK-DFW rather than LHR-JFK-DFW.

From memory, L class booked on AA flight numbers gives 1 EQP per mile flown, so that would see you get AA Plat on the DFW-EZE leg, assuming all flights up till then were on AA flight numbers (10,000 required for Plat). As you get 100% bonus miles on the leg that gets you plat, that's a handy one to get it on.

The price seems to be reasonable.

Disclaimer: My info for the plat challenge (now costs USD150) is from memory and it's over 3 years since I did it...so may require double checking!
