Hi All,

There used to be a company called Jupiter Oceana Jupiter Air Oceania Limited - On Board Courier who provided the OBC however they appear not to offer this anymore.

You could only book the flight something like 6-12 weeks before you want to leave and it will involve travelling with a VIP document that you must drop off to a destination in the country. Most of the time you can tell them when you would like to return home.

All flights originated from Sydney, but there was some possibility from Melbourne. There used to be one seat available a day, except Sundays. On Fridays you could stay a night in Tokyo for free. Prices varied according to the month of travel. Return flights cost from $1190 to $1690. One-way costs $700 to $950 including all taxes.

Does anyone know of a company that offers this service?

There's a few posts on this board about the service, but not going to go looking now for them :)

My recollection is that service, and similar services are well gone. Some companies employ staff specifically for that purpose, as do some Government Couriers and similar.

I believe certain levels of staff at DFAT can volunteer for 6 months of Courier duites.. then return to their normal function... seems there is nothing to stop them volunteering over and over...

Pretty hard work that would be I reckon.. and of course you have to BE a DFAT staffer in the first place!!;)

I too have read that the old "Courier" fares have pretty much dried up...... presumably the improvements in "virtual" document transmission have had an impact??

I searched the forum but didn't locate any posts before posting. Must of put in the wrong search criteria.

I think the service was great (not having used it) from reading various travel docs etc in the past.

Bugger its not available as I was going to look at that as an option in April :(

It would make sense that they would cut this service given technology these days.

I remember a discussion a couple of years ago. OBC is no longer available.

Here is the thread.
