Business class, and assume this includes other Euro destinations.

Just picked random dates in April, so don't know how extensive the fare is in terms of forward availability.

Tickets to be issued by 16 October.

Book direct on Oman Air and you can select seats. Miles credit to Etihad.

The other day I priced Oman Air Paris-Muscat-Colombo in J in August next year (just ordinary pricing) and got A$1,600. Maybe I read it wrong.

Edit - just confirmed it.

That would be in the ball-park! They has fares in the €1199 return range from select Euro origins to Asia. So CMB would be about right.

There's good fares in the $2000 range on Sri Lankan from CMB to MEL return in business class.

I have just returned from a J trip I used Oman air on 2 flights KUL-MCT-CDG and MXP-MCT-KUL.

The flights were great on the way out we had the old A330 with the 1-2-1 setup the other flights had the new 2-2-2 but each seat has its own aisles access , the crew were great apart from the MCT-KUL leg , the steward serving me was either ill or had a hangover and was not very interested in doing his job. The food was as good as Thai or Cathay. For the price I would not hesitate to use them again.

The terminal in Muscat is pretty old , There is a new terminal that is being built so it should be a much better transfer experience when the new terminal opens as you will be using a airbridge rather than a bus to get to the terminal.

Heres a tip , on the way out we left the lounge to go to the boarding gate ( big mistake) which was chaotic to say the least and we ended up queuing in the midday heat to get on the plane.

On the way back I asked what time the flight was boarding and the man at reception told me they would come and get us , which they did , they escorted us to a set of stairs which are in the middle of the business lounge at the bottom was a small coach which took all the business passengers to the plane first before the other passengers so no waiting on the tarmac.

Ha! that was exactly my experience at MCT last year (chaotic boarding, onto J).

Did you get any indication when the new terminal will be open?

This is only for a small number of flights (KUL, SIN, one or two others). All flights to Europe board via the cattle pens and LHR requires extra security at the gate.

Lounge is nice enough, though. Even better if you can snag a spa session.

I've been visiting Oman for the past 20 years and Oman Air is a hidden gem. i have even got my former European colleagues flying from Europe to Asia to use them if they are not worried about points etc. Have many friends there and too many stories, but my favourite is finding my way into a house in the arid regions, drinking camel milk tea with an elderly gentleman sitting on a mud floor, he not a word of English, me just the Arabic swear words (my wife is Lebanese!). The search party found me an hour later, after a feed of dates.

Melbourne sorry for my ignorance but do those fares apply to MEL to CMB return as well? If so where do I find them.

Wife and I looking at holiday in Sri Lanka in 2018. We are in Brisbane so toss up going via Singapore or Melbourne.

In a perfect world would travel one was in J from MEL to CMB and then return via Singapore to Brisbane on sq

Thanks Melbourne for the reply. That was what I was afraid of.

Oh well via Singapore then. Wont be so hard to take!

The one way fare ex Sri Lanka is running at AUD1236, that includes Sri Lankan airlines non-stop to Mel, connecting (same ticket) to Qantas business class MEL-BNE. (source googleflights, sample date 11 July, but I also checked random dates in May, June and August, all the same)

or AUD1264 will get you Sri Lankan CMB-SIN and Qantas business class SIN-BNE. But that fare jumps around a bit depending on the month (can be as high as $1450).

perhaps a one way low cost business class to Sri Lanka and return in full service business?

Melbourne many thanks for the trouble you have gone to. I have not previously used Google Flight search and it is a great tool.

I don't ordinarily like overnight flights home at the end of a holiday even if they are in J! I have checked redemption bookings on SQ BNE-CMB but they are 76,000 points each way so in my view not good value redemption. Will save the points for a Europe trip.

Now you have put me on to Google Flights thinking of a J redemption to Singapore on SQ with paid flight on Sri Lankan SIN-CMB which is only $1072 in J for a return flight. It is on a A321 and the flight time is 4h05m. Economy return is $540.

That way I can get a day time flight back to BNE.
