My membership renewal date was 31 May, and I had racked up 960 status points over the last year before ceasing travel in mid March -- well over the 600 required to retain gold. However, I have just received with my new Qantas gold card a letter that says "We've reviewed your flight activity this year and it shows that you may not requalify for Gold status. However, in recognition of your continued support for Qantas, we are pleased to offer you an extension of your Gold status for the next 12 months. Your Gold status is now valid until 31 May 2021."

Should I ignore this as a case of the wrong letter being sent with my new (earned) Gold card, or should I worry that the points accounting has been done incorrectly this is using up my loyalty brownie points?

It sounds like QF have sent you someone else's letter. I'd send a photo of the letter to them with a quick query about it though.

You may have had more then the needed amount of status credits for gold, but did you also have the 4 ~ QF/JQ flights?

I'd ignore it. I reckon it's a form letter issue. I mean you end up with your gold status as expected. I wouldn't worry about it too much :)

It’s probably a form letter issue but I’d personally clarify it with them. If their system does incorrectly show you as comped for this year you may lose an opportunity of access to their generosity in future years.

What’s the best way to contact them? Do they have an email address?

Surely if you log into your account you can see if you had enough points & sectors recorded or not to qualify.

If you did, the letter is in error and can be ignored.

If the required points etc that you are sure you earned are not showing, jump up and down and get it fixed.

Shouldn’t you have had your status extended to May 2022 according to the 12 month extension (almost) everyone received?

No, the extension does not apply to people who have already earned their status for the next year.
January and February anniversary dates who had already requalified to 2021 had a win, with extensions to 2022. It looks like March, and April onwards where customers could not requalify received the 12 month extension to 2021 anniversary dates. Hopefully many of those folk will be able to fly again from March next year to keep their status again.

Depends on how you define win. I am one of those you speak of, I have a shiny card in my pocket with a Jan 2021 expiry date which is unlikely to ever be brought out at an airport.

Whilst yes I now have status until 2022, unless something dramatically changes, I will be lucky to retain that. The super annoying thing was 2020 was potentially the year I would make WP, until everything was cancelled, including all my bookings and future plans.

I'm with you. I had travel booked and paid for that would have qualified me for WP for the first time in many years. It was an exceptional year of travel and unlikely to be repeated. All I was hoping for was a few OS trips that I could take my partner on where we could use the beautiful MEL WP lounge before departing. It is sad the QF won't comp me for that.

Although it makes no difference in the long run, I had the exact same letter even though I had already qualified for gold status. It makes me feel as though I should be grateful even though they cancelled my flight that would have given me platinum status!

I had the same letter even though, like you, I had the required status credits. I presumed that it was just a one size fits all type of thing.
