NZ flights Aus to NLK (Norfolk Is)

I'm looking at BNE-NLK flights later in the year with NZ and wondering if anyone has done this trip recently. Had a look in Airpoints forum and couldn't find the answer and nothing on AirNZ website definitive either.

Full planned journey is MEL-BNE/BNE-NLK and return.
I know the NZ flight departs BNE international.
- Is there any catch to NZ lounge access in BNE before the flight? (I have both VA and non-NZ *A access options for NZ lounges) I seem to recall Air NZ having restrictions on 'Pacific Islands' flights and NLK is considered on of those.
- I'll be connecting in BNE from VA. Planning to use AMEX VFF Plat free flights for the MEL-BNE leg. Will VA likely through check bags from MEL?
- Will NZ through-check bags to sep VA ticket on the return?

If you're flying Air NZ to Norfolk then you'll have access to the NZ lounge in BNE (yay!). It was only if you were flying VA then you didn't get access.

I've had VA check through to NZ

Unsure that NZ will through check to VA on return leg but you have to pick up your bags anyway on arriving at BNE international, then just go to transfer desk (turn right out of arrivals in BNE int) and I'm sure VA will check your bags in there for you before you head around to VA domestic i.e. the process is the same as that for through checked bags anyway.

I've only flown to Norfolk from NZ and slightly bummed that I will only be able to get to Norfolk from Australia now.
