We have just returned from a mini vacation in the Land of the Long Grey Cloud. We flew from BNE and as the flight was scheduled to arrive at 2355 we thought this time we would stay at the Novotel at the airport.it is very convenient though more expensive than those further away.It really is just a short stroll from the International Terminal and fortunately mostly under cover. The rate was $NZ195($150 on amex bill). It included a full breakfast.
The bed was really comfortable and we slept well.Only a shower but easy to use ;) and effective.Enjoyed the breakfast. So some pictures of our room-

Very happy with the stay.

I see from your terminal picture they still have plenty of long white/ grey clouds

I tried to do the LAN thing - unsuccessfully as I not only overslept and had to pay for a flight back out of my own pocket but I almost broke my nose walking into one of the many glass doors in the bathroom...

I quite liked the Novotel. The rooms are modern and felt fresh. I did the LAN run and didn't have time for breakfast unfortunately!

I too have stayed there and it is a very nice hotel. Especially for the LAN flight can walk out into the "lovely" Auckland weather in the Morning for 2 mins and wake up!!

I was impressed at how quiet it was. Didn't even hear rumbles so was very easy to sleep and massively reduces the cost of dollars and time of going into the city.

Restaurant was not cheap but food was VERY nice and decent portions. Really choices are that or wander over to the airport food court.

If only all airports has hotels that close to the terminal (SYDNEY....speaking to you here!!!!!) Though can't beat Orlando....in the bloody terminal!

Yeah, I enjoyed my stay there. Perfect for those short stopovers, or to avoid a cab/transfer from town. (I arrived about midnight, and had a shockingly early flight out ... so it was a given that it was the best hotel for my stay!).

A fortnight ago when Air NZ couldn't make my connecting flight they put myself and my partner up in the Novotel.

Couldn't believe it was right across the road from the international terminal!

The rooms were nice, clean and new. Everything you'd expect. Had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. The lamb for dinner was amazing, best I've had in a long time. The breakfast was also delicious (but New Zealand, whats your obsession with Streaky Bacon, why not normal bacon?!) and filled us up for another day of flying!

Although it was a bad situation where we couldn't make our flights, the Novotel was a lovely place to stay and a nice end to the day.

I'll add another vote for the Novotel having stayed there last Thursday. Rooms a tad cosy (two doubles in our room - sharing with my old mum), but still new and shiny. Comp bottle of water. As others have noted, not a sound from outside the building. NZD193 including 2 breakfasts. Would certainly stay again in the right circumstances.

My first post!......Can I get some advice on how to book a
"day use" room at the Novotel? On our way to SFO with NZ and have a 13 hour layover during the day. Can you book it on external sites (like hotels.com)? I am finding the direct rates are quite expensive.
Thank you

I like the bacon. ..... You can get more than one kind. I prefer it to Aussie bacon. But not a patch on Canadian.

Are you not a travel agent?

Welcome to AFF.

Are those 'quite expensive' rates to be found online? Have you tried calling the property directly?

One more - did you consider other properties?

Yes I am. My GDS only had direct access to the hotel and coorperate overnight rates. Was looking for advice from anyone who has used an external online booking site and had sucess booking a Day Use only room

Thank you for the Welcome :)

I have only been able to access the day room rates direct with the hotel, and the cost is more expensive that a few external sites I have seen for a room per night (including breakfast).
Novotel direct(and my GDS) has quoted me $175 for a day use only room, however, Hotel.com for example is quoting $95 per night.

I have looked at other properties and it looks like Novotel is closest. I need close and convenient as I will be travelling this time with my 2 year old toddler :/
