Here I sit drinking a wee dram of Glenmorangie 10 year old, a drop very well matched to a Tuesday night, and I am suffering from "NOT buyer's remorse".

I DID NOT buy alcohol when I came through duty free a couple of weekends ago!!

I never (very seldom) get buyer's remorse as I am usually fastidious in my research into purchases, often spending hours and hours of price comparison and product evaluation.
So, when I don't buy a product that I know to be very good, I now have "NOT buyer's remorse".

How did this happen:
  1. I had read on AFF about dubious value for money and had even experienced similar prices on special at Dan Murphys
  2. My 17 yo daughter and I went to Bali for the weekend (bliss) and she grabbed every single waking moment (when I wasn't surfing) - no screen time.
  3. I didn't notice that duty free had a 40% off the second purchase.
So, for this purchase:
  • Duty free = $54.99 per 1 litre
  • 1st Choice/DM = $86.67 per 1 litre
We did get in at midnight and had a focus on getting home. However:
  1. Duty free can provide value.
  2. Buy beforehand when you have clarity of mind.

I regularly suffer NOT buyers remorse over the whisky I didn't buy.....duty free or otherwise ;):p:D

I on the other hand often suffer buyer's remorse after consuming the whole bottle of the whisky that I did buy, it's either that or a hangover, not sure which

The thing I noticed after getting home a few weeks ago was the alcohol content in the 'same' gin is different Duty Free vs Dan Murphys - 47% DF, 40% DM for the same product (Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire). This makes the $/litre a slightly more difficult task too! Probably not an issue for brown spirits but certainly for the clear ones!

I used the collect on return service at SYD yesterday and thought it was a pretty good service. Was buying multiple fragrances.

It's mormally electronics and other goods (plus wine) where people refer to this.

Spirits are generally better (particularly the 2 for 1 deals) although some foreign ports (KUL and TPE) can be cheaper. In the US Costco can also be great value

I noticed in JR duty free at BNE, a sign giving the % difference between them and Dan Murphy.

Some spirits are very good value duty free and I'll keep buying them. I do note that Aelia at CNS is reasonably cheaper than JR, so I'm glad JR lost that contract.
