On June 17 Mrs G is bravely heading off solo with 2 little G's (3 YO and 8 months), SYD - SING - LHR - GLA, flying Y+ on BA 16.

She has no QFF status so I am trying to find ways to soften the blow a little. But there is no paid lounge at T1 AFAIK, and she cant use a QP pass because she's on a BA flight.

So I'm thinking of booking a flight on JQ 35, which departs at 3.00pm (BA 16 departs 3.40pm), and that way I can guest the family into the F lounge. But I'd rather not actually take the flight to Melbourne.

If I tell the F lounge staff that my meeting in Melbourne has been cancelled and I wont be boarding the flight will anything untoward happen?

Alternatively, are there any options that would give her paid lounge access at T1?

You wont be able to guest anyone in unless they are on the same flight technically, and I would not recommend trying the old cancelled plans excuse.

You can tell them you are not travelling, but your fare will be forfeited (depending on fare type), and customs will not be pleased at all, and you will have to wait until they are ready to take you back land side along with a JQ staff member.

Would anyone know if the one day AA pass get a JQ pax into at least the J lounge?

Thanks, had assumed that would be the answer but worth asking.

How long is the connection in LHR?

IME the connection time in SIN for BA-BA isnt that long, and SIN is a decent airport so i'd think the 3yo would want to run around the airport rather than be sitting in the lounge. Lots to walk around and look at and for a 3yo to be fascinated by! Does mrs G have a child carrier for the 8 month old (leaving arms free for carryon bags / child "equipment")?

Good on Mrs G and best of luck - never an easy trip with children.

Edit: I should add there's a few threads around about travelling with children so if Mrs G hasnt done it before they contain useful advice.

The AA 30 day pass would be helpful in this context, at least granting access at SIN and SYD.

My understanding is the AA pass will only work for QF lounge access if traveling QF or AA? Their flight is BA. If I've got that wrong then I'll grab one.

Thanks for the thoughts docjames.

Toddler G has circumnavigated the globe a few times now (her first trip was SYD - LHR -GLA - LHR - FCO - LHR - SYD at 5 months) and loves going on planes. Baby G has already been to GLA and back. They're great wee travelers, but while Mrs G has traveled solo with one or the other she's always had lounge access and /or been in J - this is the first solo trip with both of them and likely without the lounge.:(

That is correct I am afraid, so its not use! Do you have a Diners card?

I always find it strange there's no paid lounge in SYD (or MEL). Surely a business opportunity just waiting to be exploited?

It was not economical, Priority Privilege used to run one in the old QF lounge.

Koru Clubs will apparently admit, for NZ$55, anyone flying with NZ or another carrier that has a lounge access arrangement with them for J pax. That covers a huge swath of the non-oneworld carriers.

Aha, Mrs G can probably write all the answers then!

I think look critically at what the lounge achieved, whether it will really be beneficial (the airports she's transiting are hardly third world - OK maybe LHR T1 is.....), and then look at paid options and see if it's really worth it. Certainly with minidoc (2.3yrs), I'd expect him to want to explore the airport, not sit in the lounge following an 8/14 hr flight.....
