Going to have a go at writing a trip report for my family vacation which starts tomorrow.

Miss 8

This trip came about after the recent Orbitz/Virgin $250USD return to LAX tickets in February.
At the time we were about 3 weeks out from planned March US holiday courtesy of the Priceline/Qantas July 1st price glitch, but we figured you only live once so we booked a quick two-week return trip and figured we would plan it in April when we returned from our holiday.
We spent 3 weeks in March on a road trip between Anaheim-San Diego-Vegas-Lake Tahoe-San Fransisco-LA.
This time, we wanted to some different places and not a lot of driving so we've booked the following and on the way will gain some status credits which will give me (family pooling) my first taste of status.
currently on 165SC since April
Plan:
20th August BNE-SYD-LAX on VA
3-hour layover in LA

20th August LAX-SEA on Delta first class
Accommodation Staying at the new Thompson Seattle hotel downtown

22nd of August Seattle- Vancouver by way of Amtrak business class
Accommodation staying at the YWCA hotel (looks quiet cheap but reviews were okay)

24th August (11pm) YVR-JFK on CX (Qantas reward seats X4)
Accommodation staying at the Hilton Midtown

29th August JFK-YYZ on TAM business class (these were like $80 a seat)
Accommodation staying at the Hilton garden in downtown

2nd September YYZ-SLC-LAS on Delta first class
Accommodation staying at the Palazzo

one way rental from Vegas to LA in a Hyundai Santa Fe
3rd August LAX-BNE on VA

My wife and daughters have never flown anything other than cattle class and are super excited about getting the chance to fly up the pointy end.
I've tried to limit their expectations to exactly what "First class/Business class" is on a US domestic flight but it beats Y.
Thanks to mostly this forum I've learned so much over the past 12 months, which has given me the know how to book some super cheap flights and also turn a quick family holiday into a really nice points/SC haul.

Will post updates and pics as we go

Thanks all for reading :)

Slight change, after arriving at BNE domestic for the first leg of our journey to SYD, I was informed that we had been changed to VA7 direct BNE-LAX not bad except I almost vomited when she said you're not on VA912 and you're not on VA1. I was shaking and felt so bad. I thought I had just wasted thousands of dollars for nothing. All good we're all checked in and besides the fact our seats are not ideal, it's better than my original thoughts.

VA agent blamed Orbitz for not informing me 4 days ago but even as late as yesterday I was confirmed as VA1 on the Virgin website and even reminded at 6:30pm on the 18th about our 6:30am flight to Sydney.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
