A few weeks ago we started our European holiday by flying Norwegian premium class from Singapore to London Gatwick. There is not much written about on AFF, so I'll provide some brief thoughts.

Firstly the fare.. was a no brainer for $575 non stop in premium economy on a day flight. The other choice was MH via KUL in economy for -$500 (including fee for sitting in exit rows) on A350.

The aircraft ... Norwegian fly a 787-9 between Singapore and Gatwick, and have two configurations, one with 43" seat pitch and 56 premium seats (8 rows of 7 across) and the other with 46" seat pitch and 35 (5 x 7). Our flight was scheduled to have the smaller cabin with 46" pitch, but late change on day before saw the 56 seat version turn up.

At the airport ... check in was quick and efficient. The Norwegian website does not list Singapore as a destination where lounge access is offered for Premium passengers. However, at check in we were handed lounge passes for the SATS Premier Lounge in T1 (opposite the QF Lounge). Lounge was pleasant, had breakfast and some drinks/snacks. Plenty of reviews of the lounge online can be found via google.

Boarding ... we left the lounge about 5 mins after boarding call was made, flight was slightly late due to late inbound. We reached gate just as boarding was starting, breezed through security in 2-3 mins and then onto the plane, bypassing the queue of economy passengers waiting to board.

The seat - reasonably comfortable and good legroom, probably didn't need that extra 3" of legroom. We had selected window and aisle seat, although could have moved as plenty of spare seats due to late aircraft change. The seat has good recline, and excellent legroom, although could be difficult to get out if the seat in front was fully reclined. Luckily seat in front only reclined about 2/3 so easily get out from window seat. Leg rests came up (was a trick to doing that) and were long enough for my 6' height, and adjustable head rests were good. Better than any of the premium economy offerings I've been on due to the superior seat pitch. Blankets provided but no cushions. We brought some small bean cushions, but just used that to rest arms on as head rests were comfortable enough. Didn't really need them.

IFE - screen pops out of armrest. This was very limited, and weakest point of the flight as I'd seen most of the movies of interest to me (although someone who doesn't fly that often, would probably fare better). I had work to do on my laptop and had some programs on my ipad, so had plenty of things to keep me busy in the 12-13 hour journey.

Food - we had read online that snacks cost extra, so had some nuts, chips and fruit with us to snack on. Was unnecessary as we didn't realise a mid flight snack was provided (we only actually had the fruit). Flight started with a meal, served in box, which was better than it looked in online reviews. Was a choice of two meat + one veg dish, I chose chicken curry (with veg and rice) which was quite tasty. Came with some fruit and a salad, and were able to choose bread from bread basket. Cone ice cream provided for dessert. Midflight a roll with filling offered and another ice cream! Then prior to landing another meal, again with salad and bread rolls, unfortunately we could not both have the duck with noodles as they only had one left, and it was really good. I had to settle for Nasi Lemak (fried chicken with rice), which was tasty enough and thankfully not truly local as it was missing the "ikan bilis" (a sort of deep fried anchovy that is commonly used locally and I really detest!).

Service - excellent. Regularly came through cabin with trays of drinks (juice, water, beer).. You could also order drinks from the on screen menu (although that didn't work for first few hours, so had to rely on call button) and a range of drinks including little bottles of spirits, wine, beer and various non-alcoholic beverages were available. The flight attendant on my side of the plane was excellent. Explained the meals, was responsive and friendly.

Landing - despite leaving late, landed almost on time. Immigration was empty so straight through (although for first time on entry to UK - or in fact any immigration anywhere - I was asked for details of my onward flight). Luggage was quick and it was only a short walk to the station for the journey into central London.

Overall, an excellent flight, and great product for day flight. Would probably be OK for overnight flight, but if the price is reasonable wouldn't hesitate to use them again on the day flight from SIN-LGW.

Nice review and great price.

I've flown Norwegian in Europe (great on the 737s), and also JFK-BGO (Bergen) on a 787.

Thanks for the review.
I never thought of trying Norwegian Air from Singapore. I will try and store that idea in the memory banks.

Ive been eye balling this as an alternative to flying with points when I can’t find availability. Haven’t needed it yet and prices for my dates next yr are high.
