Has anyone noticed recently that Qantas now has no way in its normal booking engine processes to see the breakdown of base fare and taxes/fees/surcharges?

At least previously, you could click on the fare on the fare review page (before the passenger information page), and a small pop up would show one line of base fare and one line of taxes/fees/surcharges. Insufficient, especially when pretty much every other airline in the world (even those that use those cr*ppy generic booking portals) can give an item-by-item breakdown of taxes/fees/surcharges, but it was there. Now, you can't even get that at all.

Yes, I realise that most people (even us) don't really care about how much is taxes/fees/surcharges, let alone how much is each item that constitutes these.

Yes, I realise that the total fare is important and that's all that matters (usually).

Yes, I realise that there are ways around this if one really wanted to find out the taxes/fees/surcharges (e.g. ExpertFlyer, ITA, book a Classic Award).

...but, that's not the point...

Yeah - i noticed this when they reskinned the site. It's very annoying when you are trying to work out the fare basis from the base fare. It's now impossible!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

What is the point?[/QUOTE]

Transparency, adequate/full disclosure, ability to cross check or compare the taxes, non disclosure implies they have someting to hide and, of course, maybe he just wants to know what he's paying for ....etc....etc.....

It's been like that since the re-design, as noted, and the site had a further update recently to change how you select dates for bookings.

I've taken to phoning up and getting them to quote me the taxes for bookings I'm interested in, which is time consuming especially if I don't book. I would hope they could re-implement it.

Like any retailer Qantas is not obliged to break down the taxes, and at the end of the day when it comes to comparison with others the bottom line fare is all that matters. It only becomes an issue if the price shown is not the price paid.

So you don't have to search for award availability for your specific route and class of travel (which frankly can be difficult at times), to find out what your award redemption will cost you. You used to be able to simply look up the commercial fare and get that information. SQ's much maligned website allows this, and even breaks out the carrier surcharges from the government/airport surcharges (this level of breakdown is actually useful for those booking tickets through US based mileage programs!)
