Looking to take a friend out to dinner while visiting Adelaide this weekend. Have found Jolley's Boathouse which has mostly positive reviews and is available. Sounds alright.

Any other ideas? I am flying blind...

I like Taxi in Melbourne if that gives an idea of what I'm after as far as atmosphere/food/price goes

Look at any of the restaurants along Gouger St and you won't go wrong.

Nu's Thai, Siam, Pauls, Gaucho's..... it all depends on what you want.

No idea what Taxi is like sorry, However I have been to Alphutte a couple of times and it is always good, as is the Red Ochre. The Red Ochre is probably more Fun and I think it feels more special.

Personally I am a fan of Sostas (I would claim one of the best, if not the best steak in Adelaide) Welcome - Sosta Argentinian Kitchen It is Argentinian so it helps if you like meat. It did also have a rather substantial fire earlier this year but i believe it is back up and running.

Have never been to Jolly's boathouse but have heard good things from friends/ family etc.

Hope this helps Let us know where you end up.

Thanks all. This is why I love AFF. I'm liking the sound of Red Ochre.

Will report back how I go. I dare say the decision will come down to availability more than anything! :)

I hope I'm not too late to chime in, but +1 for Gaucho's. My other recommendations include Rigoni's on Leigh St or A Hereford Beefstouw on Hutt St (can you tell I enjoy a good steak!)

On the other hand if you're after something a bit less formal, my favourite pub is the Elephant & Castle on West Tce. A little bit further from the CBD but a great pub with what I feel are the best steaks in Adelaide.

Not sure if you like it, but if you want Indian food, I find Jasmin at Hindmarsh Sqaure amazing!

I'm another jasmin supporter. Rockford black Shiraz available! Can't go past the banquet. Awesome collection of signed cricket bats on the way to the toilet.

Jasmin definitely for Indian. Alphutte for Swiss. Yum. We don't like Auge at all - not our taste. Red Ochre - fun yes but not a top preference for us. Try Magill Estate for Gourmet, or Windy Point Restaurant for view. Jolley's Boathouse is nice too. A Hereford Beefstouwe - steaks are great.

Jasmine for Indian, Kenji for Japanese, Auge or Magill for posh, Press Food & Wine for great meat dishes and eclectic wine list, Vincenzos for awesome Italian, Chianti Classico for great Italian also, Celcius for mod-oz (whatever that means now), Gauchos for a colon clogging meat fest, Bistro Dom for French accented food......a bit further afield..... Fino in Wilunga and Hently Farm, Appellation or FermentAsian in the Barossa.

Jasmin is great for Indian. Alphutte is very good but is only open Monday to Friday.
