Looks like a lot of water got in...

I assume its more than just that...

Anyhow open tomorrow, but with manual check-in

17 April 2016, 6.06pm
Newcastle Airport will be open and operational tomorrow (Monday, 18 April) following the closure of the check-in hall earlier today due to storm damage.

Both arriving and departing flights will be facilitated through the arrivals hall at the eastern end of the terminal while the check-in hall is repaired.

The Newcastle Airport team has worked with airline staff to establish a manual check-in process at the airport. Due to this, passengers travelling tomorrow are advised to arrive at the airport earlier than usual to allow for the additional time needed for the manual check-in process.

Where possible, departing passengers are urged to check-in for their flight before arriving at the airport via their airline's website or app.

I was booked on JQ 477 this afternoon NTL > MEL.

To cut a long story short, as I needed to get back to MEL tonight due to work tomorrow I booked on QF from SYD.

JQ did offer to put me on another flight from SYD but without sufficient time to complete the drive to SYD airpot from NTL. ( school holidays plus everyone scrambling on JQ trying to get back to MEL tonight meant extremely tight availability for today's remaining flights)

Thankfully with a plus bundle booked on JQ I got my flight pushed back until a later date in September with no penalty.

Word on the street is the airport could be out of action for a day or two.

Per the quote above in post #3, airport is open tomorrow, using manual check-in from the arrivals hall

That's good news!

Would have created quite a snowball affect, should delays persist. Easily 1200 pax would have been affected today, based on the number of flights that were due to arrive & depart this afternoon.
