Hi everyone, I'm only fairly new to this and so a little unsure in regards to earning status credits.
I have searched to find the answer to this question so forgive me if this has already been asked.
I was wondering if I have a flight booked to Hong Kong that includes a couple of hours stop over in Singapore do I earn status credits on both legs e.g MEL-SIN and also SIN-HK or is it considered a direct flight and thus only earning status credits for MEL-HK?
Also, if I have already requalified for gold and my review date is November 14 can I also upgrade to platinum if I meet 1000sc before November this year?
Finally, is the 365 day expiry for status credits strict? Say for example I earn enough status credits to hit platinum the day before a bunch of them expire will I still get platinum or do they base it on the date their processed rather than the activity date?
Thank you for any help. I really appreciate it.

Hiya Jemm,

From my experience you should receive SC for both legs, last trip I took was SYD-SIN-LHR return, and we got SC for each leg.

Velocity should upgrade you to Platinum once you hit 1000SC, the credits last for a year, and are not lost if you move up a tier - again personal experience I recently qualified for Gold on the back of the LHR trip, took some domestic trips which put me over the line for Platinum. My understanding is though that for requalifing for a Status tier you will need to earn the requisite amount, so I will need to earn 800SC from the day I made Platinum in order to requal, no matter what my current balance is.

Lastly, I don't have direct experience of this - if we are talking earning the requisite amounts 24hrs before you are due to drop a tier I believe people have had different experiences and have had to follow up with Velocity for them to be credited correctly. I'm sure someone who has been in that position will be able to shed some light on it for you.

Correct, you will receive SCs for each sector of the MEL-SIN-HKG trip. I find HKG to be some of the best SCs earned on SQ particularly on the Flexi saver fare class.

SCs are done on a rolling system as opposed to QF which simply uses one calendar year. As such, if the SC figure in the top right hand corner of the homepage ticks over to 1000 you will achieve platinum subject to satisfying the eligible sector requirement. As such, its useful to keep track of SCs that may be dropping off soon particularly if they relate to an international trip with a high SC yield.

SCs and points are always credited based on the date of activity not the date processed.

Wow. How amazing is this forum to not only have people take the time to answer your questions but also be so informative and prompt. Thanks to you both - I understand it in full now. Thanks for your time.

Hi Jemm82, welcome to AFF. :D

To be clear, SC's are earned per booked "flight".

If you have the ONE flight number MEL-HKG and it is booked as one segment then the earn is as for MEL-HKG.

If the flight numbers are different then it's as two segments.

As for crediting, it is based on the scheduled departure date of the booked flight, even if due to delays it actually departs the next day.

As everyone has said, you get SCs for each leg of the flight, and move to WP as soon as you hit it.

The 365 day expiry on SCs is strict. After one year they vanish and don't count towards anything.
