5 days in New York in September and would like to go somewhere with a great view without compromising good food - happy to pay for the experience.

Suggestions please

Again no views but recommend Rosa Mexicano for Mexican - table side made guacamole and frozen pomegranate margaritas.

*grabs pen and starts scribbling* ... or the modern equivalent, which is make notes on my google drive doc for my trip next March :D

So far the only thing I'm looking forward to in NY is food and some architecture ... is that wrong? I'm not much of a culture vulture or museum person so the rest doesn't really grab me.

never feel ashamed about looking forward to food - hopefully I will get myself organised and do my first trip report or at least a restaurant report for you

Red Rooster in Harlem, catch the train to 125th Street and its across the road. It's amazing southern fried chicken, Jazz blues and singers on Sunday evening. I loved the dessert wine (warm wine with raisins in the glass - might have been scandinavian/swedish.... so good!). Mind you theres a 3-4 month waiting list. I was lucky a friend of mine works at the UN has a great network of contacts so we ushered in for dining after a 20 min wait, then another table to watch live blues jazz band. I heard the most amazing rendition of "Summer Time" it really set my mood for my New York visit. Extra Extra extra dirty gin martinis were to die for. UN delegates lounge on a friday evening is fun too if you have contacts.

Never feel bad about focusing on food for a trip!

On my last trip (my 4th), it was all planned around coffee and doughnuts!

Curiously, I googled this - they have an online reservation option now and you can still get a table for 2 this saturday or sunday night .... so it might not be as popular now? I will still put this on my list though :)

Two which we have liked-The Modern and River Café.

Like your way of thinking! Have just booked the River Cafe (old favourite) and The Modern (the kitchen table), this is a new one for us and looks sensational.
