After a long drawn out construction period, the new TBIT opens today after a soft opening saw three gates in use from March.

Re: New TBIT opens today

Sorry but what is TBIT? The abbreviations on these pages drive me balmy at times....

Tom Bradley International Terminal, the main international terminal at LAX.

TBIT is actually a Los Angeles Airport abbreviation.

TBIT West has been partially in use for at least eight months with gates 132, 134 etc.

I guess this means the high roofed central core of the Western airside concourse (which will be overlooked by the alliance lounges internally) is open.

Has anyone heard or seen any information regarding the design and layout of the new lounges in TBIT, plans or sketches etc.

I presume this means the Central Core area opens (plus a few more gates) that have been under testing for a while.
-- Looks like this will take the number of 'new' gates to 8, up from the current 3.

I doubt the first stage of the new oneworld lounge will open immediately.
Note it will be the first stage only as the final lounge area includes new area in the central core, the existing star lounge and the existing oneworld lounge.

This page (see the newsletters) has heaps of info:
LAX Development Documents

And Final lounge configuaration (2011 newsletter, versus the 2009 serfty posted above)

Have they made a final decision on the floor space of the J and F lounges in the revamped TBIT, is the new F(J) going to be larger than the existing SYD F(J)? for example.

Yes - read the thread from where I linked to and look at that .pdf showing the locations of the lounges.

So
a) does this mean no more tow in
b) do all Qantas flights leave from TBIT now
c) and less interestingly, will TBIT actually have more than 3 flights between 1am and 1pm - I was always amazed how the departure board was so empty between those times.

a) Yes ... ran strait in earlier this month to 134.
b) Nothing advertised, QF16 still departs T4 at the moment.
c) Doubt it - I guess the timings just don't work whether heading East or West.
