QF First Lounge in Singapore

Update on seating arrangements for F, CL and P1, this is the new system based on feedback from soft opening (and that's one reason why a soft opening is useful, to identify and where possible remedy real-world issues like this).

"The seating area at the furthest end of the lounge, closest to the open kitchen, is nominally set aside for Qantas' first class, Platinum One and Chairman's Lounge passengers. While the tables are not reserved per se, Executive Traveller understands that the maître d' will escort passengers to this 70-seat space based on their travel class or status and, except for the busiest times, guide other travellers (Qantas Platinum and Oneworld Emerald) to other areas of the dining room."

I'll also add that on Monday evening the lounge was nowhere near as crowded as during the first week. A few thoughts on this:
* I'm told that the first week saw a lot of people and groups hosted (stakeholders, partners etc) which would definitely have bumped up the numbers and contributed to over-crowding
* as a counterbalance, Monday saw QF35 cancelled, which I presume means QF36 cancelled, and if so then that could have reduced lounge capacity by quite some. There may be reports on this elsewhere on AFF.
 
I was there on Monday evening and found the experience to be decidedly average.

There was a queue for showers (never experienced that in the business lounge even in peak times.) Shower rooms are too small. There's no where to sit (the luggage storage area is not designed to be a seat). The water pressure is weak. There are no hot/cold markings on the taps and the water temperature was variable -- I spent most of my shower with water too hot or too cold (never had that problem in the business lounge).

Restaurant appeared to be still overwhelmed despite the smaller number of people present. I overheard one man in the main seating section complaining to the wait staff that he had to leave for his flight with no food despite having ordered it 20+ minutes prior. However, I was seated in the quieter area towards the open kitchen and my meals all came relatively promptly.

In terms of offerings, the barramundi was average, the sorbet was excellent and they are serving Tattinger, though I expect that to get enhanced in due course like the good champagnes have at SYD/MEL F Lounge.

None of the USB power plugs worked in the seating area. I tried more than 10.

There is no natural light. It is a long walk from the C gates.

Staff were incredibly friendly, just like in the business lounge.

All in all, I think it is only a step up from the business lounge if you want a sit down meal. If all you want is a quick snack between flights, the business lounge is probably better -- better showers, closer to gates.
 
That's disappointing. I always thought the showers in the J lounge were particularly good as far as lounge showers go.

This is good, only if it works. Sounds like "guiding" other passengers may not be enforcing the restriction.

Nothing wrong with having reserved signs like they have in the J lounge. I've seen the staff tell non-F pax to vacate the F area before.
 
Yeah, I’d have gone for Reserved signs as well as staff guiding travellers to the correct dining area.

I would suggest that any airline that wants to see lounge showers done properly should pay a visit to Cathay’s The Pier first class lounge at HKG.
 
Try the cabanas in The Wing F lounge. Now that's getting it right!
The QR showers in their T4 LHR lounge rated very highly for me.

The Cabanas are amazing but a tad OTT. I love the later design shower suites by Ilse Crawford - the amount of space, the luggage racks, the high quality fittings, the way the shower doesn’t become a steam sauna, even how the water from the shower doesn’t end up splashed out all over the floor outside.

Those reasons are what I really liked about the QR showers in LHR. Nothing more annoying than it being a sauna after a hot shower and water splashed everywhere.
 
I visited the lounge last Mon pre QF38. The staff in general were very excited following the official opening. Met the manager from Accor who's incharge of both SIN and HKG lounges. Apart from Nestor, there were also some staff from the HKG lounge, so a bit of exchange going on.

I arrived around 1930, so it was pretty quiet. Saw a smattering of PAX with JAL and BA BPs. A few people were escorted, couldnt tell credentials of course. Food wise was good though didn't really match the new found interior etc..
 
The lounge is fabulous, the showers are perfect, the staff are incredible and the food spectacularly good. I think it is possible for us to thank the airline we obviously spend a lot of time with when they do something really well.

LOL. Are you sure you went to the right lounge? You didn't accidentally stumble into the Lufthansa First Class Terminal at Frankfurt by any chance?
 
Monday night had a transit in SIN T1 and had the chance of trying the newish opened QF F lounge. Here is a quick review, sorry no photos as that night there were a lot of families and children around.

- service staff by Sofitel - mostly local Singaporeans - and they know what they are doing ! the right amount of conversation, knows the menu, and knows what we need before we ask.
- food was recorded correctly and being served promptly
- overall they have over 70% of the areas as dining tables, this does make the lounge looks more like a high class fine dining restaurant, than a lounge.
- local dishes like Laksa, and grilled stingray was provided.
- meals is very tasty
- for the remaining 30% of the seating area, staff will still actively asking if drinks / fruit / dessert are required there.

- the showers were great ! marbles and mood lighting according to the time of day selected.
 
Fellow AFFs,

We travelled through Singapore last week, which gave me and my family a chance to sample this new F lounge.

Overall we loved it, with great staff and excellent food.

Showers can’t compare to the CX F Cabanas at HKG but few can in One World. Still happy with the SIN F Lounge showers, and both my wife and I like the Qantas products in the showers too.

I was surprised at how full it got, but watching some of the people / couples come in at reception, I noticed they were OWE with partner airlines, quite a few actually.

Overall really happy there is an F Lounge in SIN where I can go with my wife AND two kids.

Went through the SIN F lounge in the late afternoon last Sunday, whilst waiting for an MH flight from T2. It was very busy, but they managed to point me to a table where I enjoyed the usual S&P squid, and then the pepper beef stir fry, after quite a long wait. Champagne topped up at wide intervals. it was nice, but too active and noisy to be even remotely relaxing, which is an important aspect of such a space, at least for me.

Interesting was that other than at reception, I never gave my name or had anything indicating who I was on the table, but the servers were referring to me by name... some new technology tracking guests and where they are sitting as they arrive, perhaps??

I tried my luck again yesterday after a quite early check in for QF82 (probably arrived to the lounge at 5:30). It was almost as busy as the previous week, with the only spaces to sit being with or amongst others. I opted instead to go to the Emirates Lounge, which ticked all the boxes, as usual.

Is there a time that anyone has gone to the F Lounge and it wasn’t busy?

@dairyfloss I've only been there once and it was in the week after it opened in December. But I got there at 3.30pm (was that keen to check it out and I checked in with a mobile boarding pass) and it was pretty empty. Went straight to the dining table and got served quite fast.

But by 6 it was that busy I actually went to the J lounge and hung out there and it was still busy but only about half full.
 
I've been there 5 or 6 times (mostly to or from QF1 or QF2) and there were a couple of times not so busy, but otherwise fairly full. I've always gotten a table though.
