Just called Citibank about the change in Qantas milage transfer program.
Told that starting from 1st April, all points earned ($1 for 1 mile - Platinum Card) will be automatically transferred to Qantas each month. You could not choose any other reward program if you opt in for this. (Free to join this coversion program).

Any comment? Is is worth going for? Should I stick with the original reward program in which one can choose many other products?:?:

Well only you can answer that...

For me ......my intention is keep the CB points for transfer to other airlines despite not having a 1:1 transfer rate...specifically SQ.

I can also tip my Amex points there too.

I can however pool enough points this way to gain flight redemptions at a reasonable rate.

Others might find QF better if their CC earn is less...as they may be able to boost the CC more easily with other earn (flights, cars, buying tyres, Fletcher Jones , Hotel ..the new Woolwoths system whatever it may be.....the various ongoing CC sign-up promtions such as the recent earth one, Amex QF, ANZ bank etc....) to gain flights at a reasonable rate.

Does it cost anything to opt in? Once off fee, yearly fees? Can you opt in with any card or is it only applicable to certain cards?

I called citibank about automatic transfer of points after march and the operator said there were no such thing and told me to continue with manual transfers.

I received something about this with my statement yesterday. It says the Qantas direct sweep costs $19 per year (not free as reported earlier) and is only available to Platinum card holders.

In addition to Krisflyer it also lists Velocity transfers being available at 1.5 to 1 - I hadn't heard this before but maybe I haven't been paying attention. Krisflyer and Velocity are only available for Gold and Platinum card holders - the Silver card gets you nothing!

Steve

I received the same leaflet as well yesterday.

Oh well, that's the end of regular usage of that Plat card (after I get my 10K and transfer them before the end of March).

(At least it costs nothing)

Well I have not been offered to a Platinum Credit card (I have fee free Gold) ..... So I guess I just don't have that option to go to Qantas direct .... oh well I prefer Krisflyer anyway :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If I opt in to direct transfer of points for QF Miles, will Citi allow me to reverse out of that deal say 6 months down the track and collect Citi points instead?

I have looked online, I have carefully looked at the Citi Rewards "flying High" brochure and that information is not available.

It does say "Once enrolled in Citi Qantas Rewards, you will enjoy all the benefits of having your points in the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, however you will not be able to redeem from the the Citi Rewards program. There will be an annual fee of $19 to access Citi Qantas Rewards."

I havn't received anything about the $19 yearly fee thing.... perhaps because I'm a sucker paying $250/year for the card? :?:

A friend of mine asked me this very question on the weekend, in relation to Westpac Altitide. FWIW, my advice was that if he was interested in round the world awards, short domestic trips and upgrades to J class on QF - stick with QF. For point to point travel internationally or for many domestic flights, the SQ or DJ programs would serve as better alternatives. This was with 1:1 transfers though. Don't know if this analysis would hold up for the Citibank card where transfers to SQ or DJ come at a reduced rate of 1.5:1.

Can you post a link please...I can't seem to find it!

Sorry, I typed that quote verbatim from the brochure that came in the mail with my statement last week.

I could not find any reference online to this new "City Qantas Rewards".:-|

I haven't received anything about this, but I am on the fee-free Gold - I wasn't lucky enough to get an upgrade to a fee-free Platinum.

Reading from this thread, it seems a QFF points direct earn option is only on the Platinum card - not Gold, right? I was planning to transfer to SQ anyway, but it's nice to know what my options are.

CBA Plat $210.00 1:1 QFF
WBC Plat $250.00 1:1.5 QFF (Amex anyway)
NAB Plat $290.00 1:1.5 QFF (ditto above)
No addtional fee for supp card for above cards

Citi Plat $250.00 + $19 + $90 (supp card) $359 1:1 QFF

Do the maths.

All the info is correct except one little thing:
Supp card for CBA Plat has a $15 fees...
