New Qantas Card 2 months early

Qantas have sent me a new card , however end of my year isn't for another 2 months
ReQualification occurred a couple of months ago.
Why is a card randomly being sent ? Or are they usually this early?
 
Normally the card arrives after the end of your year.

Except if you have qualified for a higher level, in which case it is sent out within a few weeks.
 
I received a new P1 card for the remainder of this year with a letter explaining that they had updated the cards with the new livery. The new P1 card is whiter than the old card with the new roo in silver

No new P1 card for me. Love the inconsistency.

Seems wasted expense though to send new cards just because the livery has been updated.

My experience is that the card is sent a month or two before your membership year if you have already renewed at the same level.
Cards that come after the end of the membership year tend to be the demotion cards :)
 
Good ol' QF... inconsitency is their business.

When I requalified P1 back in March (year end Aug 31) I enquired about a new card, as previously they had been sent once one requalified.. I was infomed it would be sent close to the membership year end.. It was implied this was a policy change yet this thread suggests it isn't.. or isn't a global thing.

Anyway while I did get my new card near the end of August, I query this policy in respect that what if a) one is travelling or b) card goes astray and it is needed shortly after the new year begins (while it's true one hardly needs the physical card these days there are times when it can be handy such as in foreign lands/lounges). Seems to me if they cut it too fine to send th new one out you risk not having it potentially when you need it. Plus, if you requalify and receive nothing for months .. I don't know somehow seems odd...

I could understand that if I was Gold and requalified Gold 6 months early there's no need to send a card as I could make a higher level in those months - that makes esne.. but at the P1 level there's nothing higher so I had kind of expected to get a new one within a month or so of requalifying.

Not a huge deal really but again it seems like QF can't decide what its policy is.

btw incidently I hate the new P1 card - it's thinner than before so feels flimsy and frankly it's bloody bland. Yeah look closely the roo has some design elements and stuff but it's so understated it's too understated. I showed it to someone who has little interest or knowledge of FF stuff and they said this looked very basic and had no idea it meant anything at all. lol

Never been P1 so I don't know how the old card was but the new card design seems a lot thicker and sturdier for NB
 
Sorry, old thread but i thought i would give my experience since i just got off the phone with QF
So my anniversary month is March. Im traveling week before end of March through to April. I called to see when i might get a new card to make sure it arrived before i left. Ive requalified so am retaining status.
I was told that the new cards are sent until after the end of the month, they can see that no new card has been issued yet. So whenever the next batch is run after the 1st April and i should have it within 14 days after that. I said that since i will be overseas in the US using AA lounges with an expired card. They said they could offer me some type of regular card but it would similarly only last until the end of March. They cant do anything to bring it forward or get me one before i leave. If i had a residential address they could send me a new card there. But im staying in hotels and i suspect thats just updating my address on file when they send the card out.

The agent apologised repeatedly but said they cant do anything about it. I suggested that it has to be a common issue that would affect many people but they still said they cant do much about it. They said that the systems should be linked but as some lounges may be contract lounges they couldnt guarantee i would be allowed in. They noted i was in J for some flights so have access based on class of travel. But i noted that doesnt get me into F lounges or on some of my US domestic flights.

I think im worrying for nothing and its likely a disconnect between call centre and fulfilment. Im sure ive gotten cards before the old expired. Although i could be thinking of credit cards companies. Im sure AA are linked anyway and that it will arrive before i go.
 
Probably a dumb question but doesn't your boarding pass usually have you status on it?

It should which is why im not hugely worried. But with contract lounges, short US domestic flights booked direct with AA and wanting to get into the F lounges i prefer not to give the lounge dragons any reason to deny entry.

In my experience with flights in th USA, AA want to sight the card for lounge access.
 
Has anyone else noticed the new Gold card is almost impossible to read except at certain angles (Mine was renewed in Dec). I'm wondering whether this will cause a problem at non Qantas operated lounges.
 
Last weekend at AA lounges in DFW and ORD I did not have to show my card.

At one location the AAngel even indicated when I proffered my card there was no need as it was in the booking.

This was generally different from previous experiences.

So an update to this. (Again sorry for dragging an old thread up)

I logged in to my Qantas Cash account to find the "new membership card on its way, activate now" banner. So clearly the previous agents advise that they are sent after expiry was wrong. My new kit was issued a few days ago so i should get it in 3 weeks apparently.

I asked them about getting new Q tags but the agent advised me that renewal kits now come with Q Tags as standard.
Anyone know if this is true? I suspect not. I doubt QF would change to start sending them out as standard if they didnt have to.

Also when i suggested that the kit arrival date was very close to my departure date they said that on the rare chance that it doesnt arrive in time that in the lounge they can issue a temporary membership card that last for 1 month that will be recognised by 3rd party lounge locations. They suggested it was something like a Qantas Club card with a 1 month expiry
I found this very interesting, Anyone have experience with it? A QP card wouldnt get me into F Lounges but could be useful at some AA lounges.

Anyway as before im not really worried about not having the card i just find it interesting and was really just after new bag tags.

If we're talking about getting new Q tags each time you requalify, no it's not true. I got my new WP card shortly before my year ticked over a few weeks ago and it just had the new card, no new tags. IME you can always ring them up and ask for new tags if you're so inclined.

Thought i was being told porkies.
Yeh thats why i called several weeks ago to get new ones. But apparently that request was rejected automatically due to the closeness of my new membership kit being sent out soon according to the agent i spoke to.

I guess i have to call up again once i get the kit without the tags in it.

Yes, the same with mine (also December), although it's a breeze to read compared to the new Silver one that arrived a couple of months earlier.

Your name etc will also be printed legibly on the boarding pass, so I can't see this causing problems at any lounges — except you may get tired of showing them the right angle to compare your name & number to the BP, and bored of laughing at “Qantas sure stuffed up the printing on these ones” jokes.
