Those pictures are not bad at all - would be great to see more of those concept designs as it's something that tends to crop up in the news often but rarely are the concepts demonstrated visually.

The text says one step and no increase in vertical height,

but the pictures show about six steps and a definite increase inn height in a plane.
secondly hugely claustrophobic for those on the bottom and very difficult for food/ drink serve and cleaning.

Can't see this anytime soon

I would not want be on the bottom seats in the second photo. Looks very claustrophobic.

Increases the under-seat storage capability so less likely to heavy objects to fall from overhead lockers.

I agree the picture shows the lower seats could be claustrophobic. But they could perhaps charge a surcharge for the upper seats .

You are mixing up the pictures that the various parts of the text refer to.

The Economy Comfort model raises every other seat by one step, seating the same number of passengers as a conventional economy class while increasing the reclining space.

refers to this:

The picture you are likely referring to is decribed as this

The most complex model is intended for the largest Airbus and Boeing planes and has two levels of seats, one five steps above the other, with full sleep compartments.

Now here is a thought for the airlines. How about a discount for sitting in the lower seats? ;)

All very interesting designs and I'm always for anything that makes travel easier. However, I think its too radical for airline execs to signoff on.

I'm still waiting for an airline to introduce something like the Thompson designs in Y. I think that these designs have been around for years without any takers.

No takers? I wonder why! Those designs look good. I don't think you would mind so much being stuck in the middle seat.

Recline within your own space
For someone like me this would be the key selling point especially on long haul flights. I am only comfortable sitting in an upright position and I want to have the same space as the person in front.
